The Housemaid is adapted from Freida McFadden’s first novel in the Housemaid series. The film and book share the central premise of Millie working for Nina Winchester, but an adaptation is not necessarily identical to its source material. Readers should expect differences in structure, emphasis and presentation rather than assuming that the movie reproduces every event from the novel.

As of August 11, 2026, the sequel had been confirmed as a theatrical project, but a released trailer, completed production date and final cast had not been established in the available official information. A report published August 4, 2026, said Brittany Snow had joined the cast as Marybeth; because that information was secondary reporting rather than a confirmed Lionsgate cast announcement, it should be treated as reported rather than fully official.

“The Housemaid 2” is a useful search phrase, but the official title is The Housemaid’s Secret. Searching for the official title will produce more reliable sequel news and reduce the chance of confusing the movie with unrelated projects or database entries.
The most reliable updates should come from Lionsgate or later official production announcements. Be cautious with social-media posts and movie-database listings that claim a trailer has been released or present an unconfirmed cast as final.
