Complete 16-word grid
The full grid was:
PIPE, HOOK, ROOT, APPLE, CHEER, CONSOLE, CLOUD, BRIDGE, RUNNER, BOWLER, REFRAIN, WHISTLE, BENCH, CHORUS, CLAP, COAT RACK.
Why the purple group was tricky
The purple set—APPLE, BOWLER, CLOUD, and PIPE—refers to imagery that recurs across René Magritte’s work. It does not mean that all four objects appear together in one particular painting.
Rank #3
Clouds, pipes, bowler hats, and green apples are among the Belgian Surrealist’s most recognizable visual motifs. The pipe is especially evocative of The Treachery of Images, while the apple and bowler hat are strongly associated with works such as The Son of Man. That shared association, rather than a single canvas containing the entire set, is the key to the category.
How the other groups fit
Parts of a song
BRIDGE, CHORUS, HOOK, and REFRAIN can all describe structural or memorable elements of a song. A bridge typically provides contrast, a chorus returns as a central repeated section, a hook is the especially catchy musical or lyrical idea, and a refrain is a repeated line or passage.
The reference to a guitar solo in the yellow hint was intended to steer players toward a hook—a memorable musical phrase—without giving away the whole category.
Rank #4
Support audibly
CHEER, CLAP, ROOT, and WHISTLE can all describe audible ways of showing support. You can cheer, clap, or whistle for someone, while “root” commonly appears in the phrase “root for” a performer, player, or team.
Things in an entryway
BENCH, COAT RACK, CONSOLE, and RUNNER are all plausible entryway fixtures or furnishings. An entryway bench provides a place to sit, a coat rack holds outerwear, a console table provides a surface for storage or display, and a runner is a long, narrow rug often used in a hall or entrance.

Each daily puzzle presents 16 words. Your task is to divide them into four groups of four, with every group sharing a connection. You can submit a group when you think you have found one, but incorrect guesses count against the puzzle’s limited mistake allowance. Be cautious with words that plausibly fit more than one category—the game often uses those overlaps as traps.
