Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s documented future is centered on an independent California-based life, creative production, lifestyle business, philanthropy and veterans’ work—not a confirmed return to royal duties. Harry has said he wants reconciliation with his family, but that wish has not become an announced royal settlement, restored working role or agreement to bring Meghan and their children back to the United Kingdom.
The clearest forward-looking evidence is commercial and institutional: Archewell Productions has a multi-year creative relationship with Netflix, Meghan’s As ever remains an active lifestyle brand, and Harry’s Invictus Games work has a confirmed next milestone in Birmingham in July 2027. Stories about a permanent UK move or a so-called reverse Megxit should still be treated as speculation unless the couple, the Royal Family or the relevant organizations confirm them.
The short answer: independence remains the working plan
The phrase return to royal life can be misleading. Harry and Meghan’s January 2020 arrangement with Buckingham Palace was not a temporary holiday from royal duties. It created a different model: they stepped back as working members of the Royal Family, stopped receiving public funds for royal duties and agreed not to use their HRH styles as working royals.
The palace also said that private patronages and associations would be retained, while security arrangements would be handled through separate processes. The practical direction was therefore an independent family life, initially divided between Canada and the UK, rather than a guaranteed route back into the working-royal system.

That distinction still matters. Harry can reconcile with relatives, visit Britain and maintain links to causes without resuming his former constitutional role. Based on the public evidence available through August 11, 2026, there is no announcement of a restored working-royal position for either Harry or Meghan.

A first-look deal gives Netflix an early opportunity to consider Archewell projects. It is meaningful evidence of an ongoing production strategy, but it is not a promise that Netflix will commission or release every idea. The announcement itself listed a roadmap rather than a guarantee of completion.
The projects identified by Netflix included a second season of With Love, Meghan, a holiday special, the feature adaptation Meet Me at the Lake and the documentary short Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within. Netflix also said Archewell remained in active development on additional projects across several genres.
Because those details came from a 2025 announcement and the research cutoff is August 2026, they should be read as a confirmed development plan, not a current release calendar. The available evidence does not establish final release dates for every title, nor does it confirm that every project has reached completion. A responsible update should check the current Netflix and Archewell listings before presenting any one project as newly released or still scheduled.

That uncertainty is important because the brand and the Netflix partnership are not the same thing. Harry wants reconciliation, but security remains the obstacle

Other coverage has described a possible broader return or a reverse Megxit strategy, sometimes relying on unnamed sources or commentators. Such stories may accurately reflect what is being discussed in the media, but they do not amount to confirmation from Harry and Meghan, Netflix, Buckingham Palace or the relevant charities.
Three distinctions help separate fact from rumor:
- A visit is not a relocation. Harry can travel to the UK for legal, charitable or family reasons while California remains the family’s home base.
- Reconciliation is not restoration. A repaired family relationship would not automatically return Harry and Meghan to the working-royal structure.
- Speculation is not a plan. Anonymous claims about a move, a residence or security agreement need an official announcement before they can be reported as settled arrangements.
California remains the documented family base
Harry has spoken publicly about being grateful to raise Archie and Lilibet in the United States. In an interview with Good Morning America, he discussed the advantages of raising his children there and also addressed the possibility of American citizenship without announcing that he had become a US citizen.
The safest description is therefore that the family remains based in California, while UK travel and family reconciliation remain possible but conditional. There is no official announcement of a permanent relocation to Britain.
