Princess Lilibet’s long, reddish-looking hair was visible from behind in a rare family photograph included in Prince Harry and Meghan’s 2024 holiday card. The image, released on December 16, 2024, showed Lilibet and her brother, Prince Archie of Sussex, running toward their parents at home, with three family dogs nearby.
The children’s faces were not shown. That framing made the photograph notable less as a portrait than as a carefully limited glimpse of the Sussex family, whose children have rarely appeared in newly released public images.
What the 2024 Sussex holiday card showed
The digital holiday greeting contained six photographs arranged on a dark green background. Most documented Harry and Meghan’s public, charitable and production-related activities during 2024, including their visits to Nigeria and Colombia.
One photograph showed the couple greeting Archie and Lilibet at home. The children were photographed from behind or at a distance, while Harry and Meghan stood with their arms open and three dogs close by. Lilibet’s hair appeared to fall below her shoulders, and both children were described in media coverage as appearing to have red or ginger hair.

Because the image is distant and does not show either child’s face, it cannot establish an exact hair color, texture or length. The most accurate description is that Lilibet’s hair looked long and reddish in the photograph.
The card followed Harry’s comments about Lilibet’s hair
The photograph appeared several months after remarks attributed to Harry at or around the September 30, 2024 WellChild Awards in London. According to reporting on the event, Harry said Archie and Lilibet had been “blessed with their mother’s thick hair” and that it would not be long before Lilibet could sit on hers.
Those comments concerned the apparent thickness and length of the children’s hair. They did not, on their own, establish its color or prove a particular genetic inheritance. The reddish appearance described by outlets came from the holiday-card photograph and from comparisons between the children’s coloring and their father’s—not from a formal statement by Harry or Meghan about Lilibet’s hair.

A rare new image of Archie and Lilibet
The card was significant because it provided a new public image of both children after a long period in which the Sussexes had released very few photographs of them. Town & Country described it as the first new image of Archie and Lilibet shared since the couple’s December 2022 Netflix documentary series. Vanity Fair likewise highlighted that the children’s faces remained out of view.
That choice was consistent with the way the Sussexes have generally handled their children’s public exposure. Coverage has linked the limited imagery to privacy and security concerns, although those explanations should be understood as reported context rather than as a newly confirmed statement accompanying this particular card.
The image’s main editorial value therefore came from its rarity and composition. Viewers could see the children’s silhouettes, hair and general movement as they ran toward their parents, while their faces remained private.

How Archie and Lilibet are identified
The Royal Family’s official website identifies the children as Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex. Harry and Meghan stepped back as working members of the Royal Family in 2020.
For that reason, “Princess Lilibet” or “Princess Lilibet of Sussex” is the appropriate current naming in this context. The 2024 card represented the Sussexes’ household and their Archewell organizations rather than the institution of the working monarchy.
