The biggest binge is You Season 5; the best appointment viewing is the opening three episodes of Andor Season 2; and the clearest big-screen choice is The Accountant 2.

What was new to watch on April 26–27, 2025?
The weekend had an unusually broad mix of premieres, finales, returning series, stand-up, reality television, and theatrical entertainment. Several titles were available to binge immediately, while Andor was still rolling out weekly and The Accountant 2 was intended for theaters rather than streaming.

The 10 best movies and shows to watch
1. You Season 5 — Netflix
You Season 5 was the weekend’s biggest completion event for returning Netflix viewers. The fifth season premiered on April 24, 2025, with all ten episodes available, and it is the final season of the thriller.

#1 Best Overall
Penn Badgley returns as Joe Goldberg, who is back in New York while trying to preserve the appearance of a respectable life as a husband and father. That carefully managed image begins to unravel when Bronte enters the story. The appeal here is less about discovering a new premise than seeing how the show finally closes Joe’s long-running cycle of obsession, reinvention, and violence.
If you want a multi-episode thriller you can start and finish over the weekend, watch You season 5 on Netflix. Start with Season 1 if you have never watched the series; although the fifth season is the immediate new release, its emotional and narrative payoff depends heavily on Joe’s previous history.
2. Andor Season 2 — Disney+
Andor returned on April 22 with the first three episodes of its second and final season. That distinction matters: the entire twelve-episode season was not available during the April 26–27 weekend. Viewers had the opening three chapters, with the remaining episodes arriving as the season continued.
Diego Luna reprises Cassian Andor in a story that covers four years of his life and moves toward the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Returning characters include Luthen Rael, Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, Orson Krennic, and K-2SO. The series is a particularly good choice for viewers who want political tension, espionage, occupation, resistance movements, and the morally complicated side of the Star Wars universe rather than a self-contained space adventure.
For the original weekend’s release, watch Andor season 2 on Disney+ knowing that you were beginning a rollout rather than starting a complete binge. Readers interested in the production design and making of the full series could also look for The Art of Star Wars: Andor (The Complete Series). It is a behind-the-scenes companion book, not a DVD or Blu-ray edition of the show.
3. Étoile — Prime Video
Prime Video premiered all eight episodes of Étoile on April 24. The comedy-drama comes from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the creative team associated with Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its setting and premise are distinct from those earlier shows.
The series follows two struggling ballet companies—one in New York and one in Paris—that exchange their star dancers in an attempt to revive their institutions. The international swap creates room for artistic rivalry, culture shock, backstage politics, and the personal pressure placed on performers whose careers are tied to the survival of their companies. Luke Kirby, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Gideon Glick, and Yanic Truesdale lead the principal cast.
Rank #2
This is the weekend’s strongest option for viewers who want a full-season dramedy with an unusual professional world at its center. You could watch Étoile on Prime Video as an eight-episode binge, or sample the opening episode before committing to its ensemble story.

Havoc is the clearest pick for someone who wants a new action movie rather than another serialized drama. The Tom Hardy-led thriller premiered on Netflix on April 25.
Hardy plays a compromised detective who has to fight through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son after a drug deal goes wrong. Jessie Mei Li, Timothy Olyphant, Forest Whitaker, and Justin Cornwell are also part of the ensemble.
The premise gives the film a direct, pressure-cooker structure: a damaged law-enforcement protagonist, a dangerous rescue mission, and a criminal network that has to be crossed from the inside. It is a good choice when you want something that begins and ends in one sitting, without taking on another ten- or twelve-episode commitment. During the target weekend, Havoc was the new Netflix movie option, while You supplied the platform’s returning-series event.
5. WondLa Season 2 — Apple TV+
Apple TV+ released all seven episodes of WondLa Season 2 on April 25, making it the most clearly family-oriented choice in this group. The animated science-fiction fantasy series is based on Tony DiTerlizzi’s children’s novel trilogy, though an adaptation should not be assumed to match the books exactly.

The story follows Eva, a human teenager stranded on the planet Orbona. She searches for Earth and other human life while traveling with Muthr, her robot caretaker; Otto, a telepathic water bear; and Rovender, an alien companion. The combination of discovery, alien landscapes, friendship, and a continuing search for humanity gives the season a broad appeal for families looking for an animated adventure rather than an adult thriller.

- Factory sealed DVD
For the weekend’s complete animated binge, watch WondLa season 2 on Apple TV+. Families should still check the current regional listing and age guidance, since platform availability and suitability information can change.
6. The Conners series finale — Hulu
The Conners ended its seven-season run on ABC on April 23, 2025. Its two-part finale was available through Hulu during the weekend, making this a farewell recommendation rather than a new-season premiere.
The spinoff continued the working-class Illinois family story after the death of Roseanne Conner and spent its final episodes resolving character arcs while acknowledging the series’ connection to Roseanne. The concluding run was presented as a six-episode farewell season, culminating in the two-part finale.
This is best for viewers who have already invested in the Conner family. Someone unfamiliar with the preceding seasons can still watch the finale, but the emotional effect and character resolutions will be limited without that context. In the original weekend’s U.S. viewing lineup, you could watch The Conners finale on Hulu after its ABC broadcast.
7. Conclave — Prime Video
Conclave arrived on Amazon Prime Video on April 22, a particularly timely release window because it coincided with the death of Pope Francis and renewed public interest in the real process of choosing a new pope.
Ralph Fiennes stars as Cardinal Lawrence, who oversees a secretive papal election as political maneuvering, institutional factions, and personal secrets emerge among the cardinals. The film is adapted from Robert Harris’s novel and works as a fictional political thriller built around a highly controlled selection process.
Rank #4
It is important to treat Conclave as drama, not as an instructional documentary about how a real papal election works. The film uses recognizable conclave rituals and religious institutions, but it takes substantial dramatic liberties, including in its treatment of a cardinal appointed in pectore—a cardinal whose appointment has been kept secret. That blend of real-world procedure and heightened fiction is precisely what makes it a strong choice for viewers who enjoy conspiracies, closed-door negotiations, and ethical revelations.
For readers who want to compare the adaptation with its source material, the Robert Harris Conclave novel is the natural companion read. It should be treated as an optional book-to-screen comparison, not as a replacement for the film.
8. The Accountant 2 — theaters
The Accountant 2 was the list’s theatrical recommendation. It opened in U.S. theaters on April 25, 2025, so the accurate way to describe the original weekend was find tickets for The Accountant 2 or check local showtimes—not stream it at home.
Ben Affleck returns as Christian Wolff, with Jon Bernthal reprising the role of his brother, Brax. The sequel follows the brothers as they investigate a murder, combining an action-thriller case with a brother-centered buddy-comedy dynamic. That relationship is the main reason to choose this over a more conventional crime movie: the sequel is designed around the friction and rapport between Christian and Brax as much as the investigation itself.
Home viewing belongs to a later release window. The film had a physical Blu-ray release by August 12, 2025, and later appeared within Prime Video’s transactional and subscription ecosystem. Those later options should not be projected backward onto the April 26–27 theatrical weekend. If you want to add the movie to a collection after its theatrical run, look for The Accountant 2 Blu-ray; availability of other editions can vary by market.

9. Vanderpump Villa Season 2 — Hulu
For unscripted viewing, Vanderpump Villa Season 2 was available on Hulu during the weekend. The reality series follows Lisa Vanderpump and her hospitality staff at an Italian estate, with the season moving the group to Castello Rosato.
The show’s appeal comes from the collision of luxury hospitality, workplace pressure, shifting alliances, and interpersonal conflict. Stassi Schroeder, known from Vanderpump Rules, was among the franchise-connected names highlighted around the season. This is not a scripted drama and not a new season of Vanderpump Rules; it is its own reality series built around the staff and guests at Vanderpump’s estate.
Choose it if you prefer an ensemble reality show with a hospitality setting and plenty of relationship dynamics. It also provides a useful change of pace after darker scripted choices such as You, Havoc, and Conclave.

10. Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life — HBO and Max
Brett Goldstein’s first Max stand-up special premiered on HBO and Max on April 26. Known to many viewers as Roy Kent from Ted Lasso, Goldstein brings that blunt, adult comic persona to a single-sitting special.

Availability and date caveat
All platform references above describe the U.S. release and availability picture for April 26–27, 2025. Netflix carried You Season 5 and Havoc; Disney+ carried Andor Season 2; Prime Video carried Étoile and Conclave; Apple TV+ carried WondLa Season 2; Hulu carried The Conners finale and Vanderpump Villa Season 2; and Max carried Goldstein’s special. The Accountant 2 was the theatrical exception.
Streaming rights, subscription requirements, purchase options, and territory availability are volatile. If you are using this guide after the original weekend—or outside the United States—check the relevant service or theater listing before making a plan. The later Blu-ray and home-video availability of The Accountant 2 is a separate release window and does not change what was available during the original weekend.
