#1 Best Overall
| Category | Words |
|---|---|
| SMIDGEN | BIT, DASH, PINCH, TOUCH |
| BARGAIN | BUY, DEAL, STEAL, VALUE |
| BILLIARDS EQUIPMENT | BALL, CHALK, CUE, RACK |
| ___ BOOK (THAT’S NOT A BOOK) | FACE, MAC, MATCH, POCKET |
How the wordplay group works
The last category is deliberately phrased ___ BOOK (THAT’S NOT A BOOK). Each tile makes a familiar expression with “book,” rather than naming a book:
- FACE → Facebook
- MAC → MacBook
- MATCH → Matchbook
- POCKET → pocketbook
The parenthetical is the key: it prevents “book” from being read as a shared literary-title clue.

A practical way to approach this grid
Connections asks players to divide 16 tiles into four themed groups of four. For this particular archived puzzle, the cleanest route is to take the obvious semantic sets first: BIT, DASH, PINCH, TOUCH for small amounts; BUY, DEAL, STEAL, VALUE for bargains; and the billiards terms. The four tiles left over reveal the book construction.
This is a logical solving path based on the completed grid, not a claim about the puzzle’s original color order or a record of a tested playthrough.
