That distinction matters: “Prime Video” was the Japanese subscription option, not a blanket answer for North American viewers. Streaming catalogues, prices, plans, languages, and purchase options vary by country and change over time, so confirm the title page in your local service before subscribing or paying.

Check the version before you press play
There are two releases to distinguish:
- Godzilla Minus One is the original color film.
- Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color is the separate black-and-white version.
Netflix’s June 1, 2024 North American launch applied to the original color film. The black-and-white Minus Color edition was announced for Netflix later that summer, so older coverage that treats them as the same release can be misleading. Check the exact title displayed by your service, especially if the monochrome presentation is the one you want.
#1 Best Overall
Best option by viewing preference
- Already have Netflix in North America: search Netflix for Godzilla Minus One.
- Do not want another subscription: check a digital rental or purchase listing, starting with Amazon, Apple TV Store, or Fandango at Home where available.
- Watching from Japan: check Prime Video’s local catalogue.
- Want a copy that is not dependent on a streaming licence: shop for Godzilla Minus One Blu-ray. For 4K, search Godzilla Minus One 4K UHD Blu-ray and inspect the listing’s disc contents.
Physical media: what is and is not included
Physical editions are not interchangeable. The 2024 North American releases included Steelbook 4K UHD + Blu-ray + bonus Blu-ray, standard 4K + bonus Blu-ray, Blu-ray + bonus Blu-ray, and DVD editions. Those North American editions did not include Minus Color.
The Deluxe Japan Collector’s Edition was different: it bundled the original film in 4K and Blu-ray, Minus Color on Blu-ray, and a bonus Blu-ray. It was also announced with English menus and English and Spanish subtitles for both film versions. If Minus Color is essential, verify that exact edition rather than assuming a standard Blu-ray has it.

- Limited Edition Steelbook
- 4K Ultra HD
- HD Bonus Content
Collectors in the United States may also encounter the limited-edition Steelbook announced July 21, 2026, containing 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and bonus Blu-ray discs. As with any disc purchase, verify region compatibility, included discs, subtitles, and retailer details before ordering.
Before you subscribe, rent, or buy
- Search the service in the country where you will watch.
- Confirm whether the listing is streaming with your plan, a rental, or a purchase.
- Confirm the version: color original or Minus Color.
- Check the title page for the audio and subtitle options available in your territory.
- Use official services and retailers; do not rely on unofficial streams or VPN workarounds.
For the historical 2024 question, the short answer remains Netflix in North America and Prime Video in Japan. For a present-day viewing decision, local availability is the deciding factor.
