| 🟨 Yellow | Human-powered watercraft | DUGOUT, KAYAK, RAFT, SHELL |

How the groups work
Yellow: human-powered watercraft
A dugout is a canoe made from a hollowed tree trunk. A kayak and a raft are also familiar boats that can be moved without an engine. In this puzzle, shell refers to the narrow rowing boat used by crews—not the casing of an animal or object.
Green: flush
Even, flat, and level can all describe a surface without bumps or variation. Plane works in the same sense as a flat or level surface. This group is a useful reminder that Connections may use an adjective or a less obvious related sense rather than the first meaning that comes to mind.
Blue: Honda models
Accord, Civic, Odyssey, and Pilot are Honda vehicle models. Kayak is the trap here: it is a vehicle of sorts, but it belongs with the watercraft rather than the Honda names.

Purple: biblical figures after removing the first letter
Each purple entry becomes a biblical name when its first letter is removed:

|---|---|---|
| FLUKE | LUKE | Luke |
| LABEL | ABEL | Abel |
| MADAM | ADAM | Adam |
| TRUTH | RUTH | Ruth |
The category is phrased as biblical figures “plus” a starting letter because the names are not printed directly in the grid; each has one extra letter at the front.
Tips for solving this grid
- Lock in the watercraft first. DUGOUT and KAYAK are strong signals. RAFT is another clear fit, and SHELL completes the four-word group.
- Look for synonym groups. EVEN, FLAT, and LEVEL share the idea of being smooth or without a difference in height. PLANE is the less immediate fourth answer.
- Test proper-name categories. ACCORD and CIVIC should suggest Honda. ODYSSEY and PILOT complete that set, even though PILOT can also sound like a general transport-related word.
- Inspect word edges when purple remains. Removing the first character from FLUKE, LABEL, MADAM, and TRUTH exposes LUKE, ABEL, ADAM, and RUTH.
- Do not spend guesses on loose vehicle associations. KAYAK may tempt you to group it with PILOT, but Connections uses the exact Honda-model set. You have only four incorrect guesses available, so speculative submissions can quickly eliminate your margin for error.
Why this puzzle is tricky
The grid places several kinds of transportation vocabulary together. KAYAK belongs to the yellow group, while PILOT belongs to blue; that overlap in theme is designed to delay an early solve. The green group is also disguised by PLANE, which is more commonly read as an aircraft. Finally, the purple category depends on a letter operation rather than a shared definition, making it difficult to spot until the other groups have been removed.
