Max’s August 2024 schedule combined major Warner Bros. films with HBO documentaries, international series, reality programming, and returning factual shows. The month’s documentary highlights included Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes, Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth?, Chimp Crazy, and Serengeti III. Film arrivals included Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, and The Watchers.
The list below covers the U.S. Max lineup and the announced premiere dates for August 2024. Some titles were available through HBO live channels or Max’s subscription library, while others arrived as weekly series rather than complete-season drops.
Documentaries and documentary series to watch
For documentary fans, August had a particularly strong nonfiction selection. Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes used newly heard audio recordings to examine the actor’s life and career. Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? investigated the disappearance and deaths of two Iowa cousins, while HBO’s Chimp Crazy followed people who keep and breed chimpanzees, exploring the emotional and ethical complications of private primate ownership.
The month also added Serengeti III, the third season of the wildlife series, plus several true-crime and investigative specials, including Andrew Tate: Icon or Toxic? A Faking It Special and programs about Levi Bellfield and the Grindr Killer scandal.

Industry Season 3 was not released all at once: its eight episodes arrived weekly after the August 11 premiere. The same distinction matters for returning factual franchises, whose listings may represent a season or a package of episodes rather than a single feature-length program.
