This documentary is concerned with the letters from American soldiers, fighting in Vietnam, addressed to their beloved ones. It is directed by Bill Couturie in 1987 and was given the prestigious awards such as Grammy and the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film festival.
The letters from this documentary were written between 1954 and 1975 and are addressed to the family members, friends and sweethearts. A number of actors participated in this documentary by reading these letters thus creating an emotional narrative. It is accompanied by a slideshow of archived footage of that period.
Among the actors that contributed to this documentary were Tom Berenger, Ellen Burstyn, J. Kenneth Campbell, Richard Chaves, Josh Cruze, Willem Dafoe, Robert De Niro, Brian Dennehy, Matt Dillon, Robert Downey Jr., Michael J. Fox, Mark Harmon and Elizabeth McGovern.
The documentary gives us a profound insight into the experiences of the American soldiers that participated in the Vietnam War. They conveyed these emotions into these letters and expressed their thoughts on war, family, life, love and peace to their loved ones.
