The SOS Mediterranée humanitarian organisation has been saving lives at sea for the past 6 years. In that time, they have already rescued a staggering 35,000 people from the vast expanse of the Mediterranean Sea. This inspirational new documentary follows the crew of the Ocean Viking as they embark on another rescue mission, providing an unprecedented glimpse into the life-saving work these brave men and women undertake every day.
The dangers of these missions are evident throughout – whether it’s navigating through treacherous weather conditions or struggling to cope with overcrowded boats of desperate refugees – but, despite this, the crew remain determined to do all they can to help those in need. Through interviews with rescued migrants and gripping footage captured aboard the Ocean Viking, the film offers a unique insight into a world rarely seen.
The documentary also sheds light on some of the more challenging aspects of saving lives at sea – such as dealing with smugglers and finding a safe port for disembarkation – showing how complex and dangerous this work truly is. Despite these obstacles, however, SOS Mediterranée continues to make incredible progress in helping refugees seeking asylum across Europe.
