On December 5, 1952, the skies above London, England were filled with an ordinary fog. Little did anyone know that by the end of the week, 12,000 people would be dead or dying due to this seemingly innocuous phenomenon. As the fog lingered and grew thicker on December 6th and 7th, it began to take on a yellow hue – something that had never been seen before in London. This was no ordinary fog. This was a killer fog.
Killer Fog is a documentary about what is now known as one of the deadliest air pollution events in 20th century history. The thick smog released from burning coal caused thousands of citizens to suffer from respiratory illnesses and even death over those few fateful days in 1952. Incredibly, authorities attempted to cover up the cause of this tragedy for 50 years until documented evidence finally revealed its devastating toll.
