Edward Theodore “Ed” Gein is a notorious American murderer and body snatcher whose crimes shocked the nation. His gruesome acts, which he conducted in the small town of Plainfield, Wisconsin, managed to capture the attention of many people after authorities discovered he was stealing bodies from local graveyards.
Gein admitted to killing two women during his time in Plainfield: tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954 and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957. He also made various items out of body parts taken from these two victims as well as corpses he exhumed from the graveyard.
The case became even more disturbing when police found stays from these exhumed bodies in his home. In addition to this shocking discovery, officers also stumbled upon furniture and clothes made of human skin and facial features crafted out of bone and preserved tissue.
The story of Ed Gein is an extremely dark yet interesting tale that has been featured in various films such as Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
