101 East: Into the south

In the poorest areas of South Thailand, political unrest has resulted in militant groups targeting people in brutal attacks, with a total of more than 5000 people murdered since 2004. In this predominantly Buddhist nation, there is still resistance against the government by what looks to be Malay-Muslims. The violence in these areas is now on many other country’s watch lists, as it continues to escalate.

This short documentary by Al Jazeera talks to two widows of slain militants, who call their husbands martyrs for their cause.
