Tashi and The Monk is an inspiring documentary about the power of compassion and the journey of transformation. It follows the story of Jhamtse Gatsal, a remote mountain community in India, founded by a former monk and teacher, Lobsang Phuntsok. The community provides sanctuary for abandoned and destitute children who come from all parts of India in search of a better life.
In this unique environment, these children are given proper education, love and care; Lobsang Phuntsok teaches them to be compassionate with each other and to embrace their differences. The film also profiles Tashi, one of the children living at Jhamtse Gatsal, who quickly rises to become the leader of her peers during her time there. With his guidance and support – as well as that of the older children – she learns how to handle difficult situations with courage and understanding.
