California is one of the most expensive places in the world for students to pursue an education. With sky-high tuition fees and even higher housing costs, many college students in the state are struggling to make ends meet. Recent studies have suggested that as many as 15% of university students in California have experienced homelessness while studying, with some turning to sleeping in their cars.
This growing trend of student homelessness has been brought to light by a recent documentary entitled ‘Living On The Streets Of College’, which follows real stories of homeless college students from across California. From Berkeley and UCLA to San Diego State University, these student stories provide powerful insight into the struggles they face day-to-day and how they manage their studies while dealing with extreme poverty.
The film highlights a number of issues contributing to this growing problem, such as insufficient financial aid, rising housing costs and budget cuts at universities.
