The transfer was made on request and while SPF’s investigation was still open. Singapore’s later outcome came in 2026: a State Coroner’s finding of accidental drowning in March, and SPF’s announcement that its investigation had concluded in April.
What was handed over, and to whom
The primary record is SPF’s official statement of 17 October 2025, which says: “Despite the fact that SPF is still in the midst of its investigations, on 1 October 2025, it extended a copy of the autopsy report of the late Mr Garg, and SPF’s preliminary findings, to the High Commission of India upon their request.” (Singapore Police Force, statement on investigations into Mr Zubeen Garg’s death, 17 October 2025)
Three details matter. The recipient was the High Commission of India in Singapore, the Indian government’s diplomatic mission, not a domestic authority in India. The transfer came at India’s request. And it included SPF’s preliminary findings, not only the autopsy report. News On AIR reported the handover on 3 October 2025 under the headline “Singapore police hand over autopsy report to Indian authorities.” That wording is broader than SPF’s own, which names the High Commission specifically.
Timeline of the official positions
The Singapore process unfolded in stages, and each stage carries a different official status. The table keeps them separate.

| Date | Institution | What happened | Procedural status at that point |
|---|---|---|---|
| 19 September 2025 | Not applicable (event) | Garg died after an incident during a yacht trip in waters off Lazarus Island, Singapore, as reported by CNA. | SPF investigation follows the death |
| 1 October 2025 | SPF to the High Commission of India | A copy of the autopsy report and SPF’s preliminary findings were extended on India’s request. | Investigation still in progress |
| 3 October 2025 | News On AIR (media report) | Reported the handover to “Indian authorities.” | Media account of the transfer; not an official statement |
| 17 October 2025 | SPF (official statement) | Said the case was under investigation under Singapore’s Coroners Act 2010, that preliminary investigations did not lead it to suspect foul play, and that findings would go to the State Coroner. | Investigation ongoing; findings pending |
| 25 March 2026 | State Coroner Adam Nakhoda | Ruled the death an accidental drowning and found no evidence Garg was forced, coerced, or pushed into the water. | Coroner’s finding |
| 1 April 2026 | SPF (official statement) | Announced that its investigation had concluded and that post-mortem findings, including toxicology and autopsy results, confirmed drowning as the cause of death. | Investigation concluded |
What the transfer does and does not establish
The October 2025 statement establishes a narrow set of facts:
- India’s High Commission in Singapore asked for the material, and SPF provided it.
- What was provided was the autopsy report plus SPF’s preliminary findings.
- The transfer happened while SPF’s investigation was still in progress.
It does not establish that the report was made public. Nothing in the official statement says the document was released to the press or the public, and readers should not assume it was. The statement also cautioned against speculation and unverified information, which is worth remembering when reading social media claims about the report’s contents.

What Singapore’s coroner later found
The State Coroner’s ruling, 25 March 2026
State Coroner Adam Nakhoda ruled the death an accidental drowning. He found no evidence that Garg was forced, coerced, or pushed into the water. As CNA reported, the coroner described the death as “simply due to an unfortunate and tragic accidental drowning.” (CNA, “Singapore coroner rules accidental drowning,” 25 March 2026)
This is the coroner’s finding, made after the investigation stage. It is a separate step from SPF’s October 2025 transfer, and it is the document that answers the question of cause and circumstances in Singapore.

CNA reported that SPF’s findings showed a blood ethanol level of 333 milligrams per 100 ml of blood. CNA set this against Singapore’s legal limit of 80 milligrams per 100 ml, describing the reading as more than four times that limit. These figures are attributed to SPF’s findings as reported by CNA in 2026, and they are context for the drowning finding rather than a separate ruling.
SPF’s closing announcement, 1 April 2026
On 1 April 2026, SPF said its investigation had concluded. It stated that post-mortem findings, including toxicology and autopsy results, confirmed drowning as the cause of death. (CNA, “Singapore police say investigation concluded,” 1 April 2026)

CNA has reported that charges were filed in an Indian court. Singapore’s coroner ruling and SPF’s closing announcement concern Singapore’s process. They do not resolve, and should not be described as resolving, any proceedings in India. The Singapore reporting available as of October 2026 does not establish the current status of the Indian case, so anyone following it should check Indian court records and Indian official reporting for the latest position.
For a clear reading of the record, keep three questions apart: what SPF sent and when, what the State Coroner decided, and what remains open in India.
