The milestone is no longer a forecast: Disney later reported a $1.9 billion worldwide theatrical gross, while box-office trackers displayed totals of about $1.87 billion in October 2026.
When did Zootopia 2 hit $1 billion?
Disney said on December 12, 2025, that Zootopia 2 would cross the $1 billion mark after 17 days in release. At the time of that announcement, the film had earned $986.1 million worldwide: $232.7 million domestically and $753.4 million internationally, according to The Walt Disney Company.

Disney described that pace as the fastest to $1 billion for an animated MPA release and a PG-rated film. Those are category-specific records attributed to the studio, not a claim that the movie reached the milestone faster than every film in every rating and release category.
How much has Zootopia 2 made worldwide?
The reported total rose well beyond $1 billion. Disney said on January 18, 2026, that the film had reached $1.703 billion worldwide, including $390 million domestic and $1.313 billion international. In the same announcement, Disney said it had surpassed Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated MPA film at that point, and ranked ninth among all films worldwide in the ranking cited then. Disney+ Press later described the theatrical total as $1.9 billion worldwide in a March 19, 2026, release. Tracker figures accessed October 8, 2026, are more precise but do not match exactly:

The trackers’ displayed worldwide totals differ by several million dollars. Box-office databases can be revised, so the figures should be read as source-specific snapshots rather than a single independently reconciled final total. The sound overall description is that the film passed $1 billion in 17 days and was later reported at roughly $1.9 billion worldwide.

Why the milestone mattered
The $1 billion mark showed how quickly the sequel’s theatrical gross accumulated; the later total established its scale among animated releases. Disney’s January comparison was specifically with animated films carrying the MPA classification, while its statement about the speed to $1 billion used the animated MPA and PG-rated categories. These scopes matter: “highest-grossing animated movie” can mean different things depending on which releases and rankings are included.
At the time of Disney’s December announcement, international markets accounted for most of the film’s reported earnings: $753.4 million of its $986.1 million total. By Disney’s January 18 snapshot, the international figure was $1.313 billion out of $1.703 billion. The domestic and international figures are the studio’s reported geographic split for those dates.

Does the box office mean Zootopia 2 made a profit?
No exact profit can be calculated from the theatrical gross alone. The Numbers lists a $150 million production budget, and its October 2026 displayed worldwide gross is about 12.5 times that figure. But that ratio is not a profit estimate: it does not account for marketing and distribution costs, other expenses, or the share of ticket revenue retained by theaters. The budget and gross are separate measures, not a statement of the studio’s net earnings.

The Numbers lists the film’s domestic release date as November 26, 2025, its runtime as 108 minutes, and its rating as PG for action/violence and rude humor. It identifies Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Animation Studios as the production companies; Disney identifies Jared Bush and Byron Howard as directors and Yvett Merino as producer.
Disney+ Press reported that the film premiered on Disney+ and drew 32 million global views in its first seven days on the service. That is a company-reported streaming-view metric, not a theatrical ticket count. Streaming catalogs vary by country and can change; check Disney+ in your region for current availability. For home video, The Numbers lists a January 27, 2026 video-release date from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, but does not specify formats or editions.
