Ziddi Girls is a scripted, eight-episode Hindi drama set at a fictional all-girls college in Delhi. Its strongest asset is its young ensemble, whose warmth carries the show through a crowded plot. Its main weakness is speed: the series moves so quickly that some of its serious subjects, including consent, campus politics and institutional power, are raised and then left under-developed.
This is a fiction series, not a documentary, so this review judges it as drama. It draws on a published critical review from Scroll.in, the producer’s announcements and streaming-catalog listings. It is not a shot-by-shot account of every episode.
What Ziddi Girls is about
The show follows five first-year students at Matilda House, a women’s college in Delhi that does not exist outside the series. The producer describes a brewing rebellion that begins when a conservative new principal arrives, and the story uses that clash to tie friendship, identity and institutional rules into one narrative engine.
The premise escalates from a leaked sex-education screening and the campus backlash that follows, into disputes over rules, protest and the future of the college. Streaming catalog synopses add that the story includes a fight over curfew, a referendum, student protest and censorship, conflicts around scholarships and loyalty, and a later challenge to Matilda House itself. These are catalog summaries rather than independent confirmation of events, and the college is fictional.

The five leads
The series is built around five young women whose backgrounds and pressures differ sharply. As the Scroll.in review describes them:
- Trisha is a hockey player with plans to leave for Boston.
- Vandana supports her family.
- Tabby is a small-town influencer.
- Devika struggles with money and English.
- Wallika is a wheelchair user and rock fan whose activist father is in conflict with corrupt industrialists.
The lead cast is Atiya Tara Nayak, Umang Bhadana, Zaina Ali, Deeya Damini and Anupriya Caroli. The supporting cast is listed as Simran, Nandita Das, Nandish Singh Sandhu, Lillete Dubey and Revathy. The producer credits Rangita Pritish Nandy as creator and Ishita Pritish Nandy as co-creator, with Shonali Bose, Vasant Nath and Neha Veena Sharma as directors.

Friendship and free speech: what the show is trying to say
The producer frames the series as a story about five young women “searching for their identity and an anchor in life-enriching friendships” who “stand by our beliefs, our faith.” That framing is the clearest guide to the show’s intent. Its central question is less about any single campus controversy than about how young people who are different from one another hold onto each other while the institution around them tightens.
The Scroll.in review reads the series as strongest when it is most subtle. It singles out Devika’s apolitical outlook as a useful reminder that anger and political agency are not equally available across class lines, which is a point the show makes more through character than through speeches.

What works
- The performances. The review praises the younger performers’ portrayals of anguish, love and ambition, and says the cast’s energy drives the series.
- Warmth. The directors give the friendships room to feel lived-in, and the show’s more quiet observations land better than its big set-pieces.
- Wallika’s arc. The review considers her coming-of-age storyline the most convincing of the five.
What the pace costs
The review’s main objection is that the plotting and editing move so fast that serious issues are glossed over. A professor’s Kashmiri identity and Wallika’s father’s fight against corrupt industrialists are introduced without enough room to develop. The review also finds some dialogue false or heavy-handed and says not every character receives equal nuance.
For viewers, the practical consequence is that the show is easier to enjoy as an ensemble story than as a study of its political themes. Those who come for the free-speech and institutional conflict may feel the drama is skimming the surface, while viewers who come for friendship and character may find the speed less of a problem.

Who it suits
Ziddi Girges suits viewers who want a bright, socially aware ensemble drama about young women finding their footing and their voices, and who are happy with a fast pace. It is less suited to viewers looking for a deep treatment of Kashmir, class struggle or corporate corruption, which the review says are introduced but not fully explored.
On balance, it is a warm and energetic debut-season ensemble that delivers its emotional core more reliably than its political arguments. Its glossy surface is the point, and its shortcomings are the cost of that choice.
