Zendaya’s honey-blonde hair from the 2024 Challengers press cycle was not one fixed shade. Published coverage describes three different appearances: a warm, multidimensional blend at the Australian premiere in March 2024, a curly honey-blonde look in London in July 2024, and a brighter golden bob at Wimbledon on July 14, 2024. Identify which of the three a photo shows, and you will know which description applies to it.
Three looks, compared
| Look | Date and event | How published coverage describes the color | Quick visual cue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Australian premiere | March 2024 (Allure report dated March 26, 2024) | Warm, multidimensional mix of brunette, honey blonde, wheat blonde, and sandy blonde; described as a bridge between light brunette and dark blonde | Tousled twist with loose, face-framing curls |
| London appearance | July 2024 (Vogue and British Vogue coverage) | Honey-blonde color with caramel and toffee tones through the lengths; Vogue noted a brighter area around the face | Curly texture and a messy, undone bun |
| Wimbledon | July 14, 2024 (Allure report dated July 15, 2024) | Sunny, light, bright golden blonde with slightly darker wheat-blonde tones at the roots; Allure described it as lighter than the earlier honey shade | Side-parted bob with flipped ends |
The three looks in date order
Australian premiere, March 2024
This is the look most often labeled simply “honey blonde,” but the reporting describes something more layered than a single tone. Allure described the color as a warm, multidimensional blend of brunette, honey, wheat, and sandy blonde, and framed it as a middle ground between light brunette and dark blonde. If the photo you are checking shows several tones at once, with no single block of color, it is likely this look. Allure credited stylist Ursula Stephen for the tousled twist and loose framing curls.
London, July 2024
The London appearance is the curly one. Vogue noted a brighter area around her face, which is the detail to look for when comparing it with the premiere photos. British Vogue described caramel and toffee tones running through the lengths, styled into a messy, undone bun. Because the curls change how light falls on the hair, a warmer, more caramel read in London can look different from the premiere look even when the underlying colors are related.
Wimbledon, July 14, 2024
The Wimbledon bob is the brightest of the three. Allure described it as sunny, light, bright golden blonde, with slightly darker wheat-blonde tones at the roots. That root shading is the most useful way to recognize it: the lengths read golden and clean, while the roots are a touch deeper. Allure treated this as lighter than the earlier honey shade, so it should not be grouped with the premiere or London looks.

How to tell which look a photo shows
- Check the event caption first. Each look is tied to a specific event and date, so the caption usually settles the question.
- Look at the silhouette. A twist with framing curls points to the premiere, curls with an undone bun point to London, and a side-parted bob points to Wimbledon.
- Compare the brightness around the face. London is described as brighter around the face; Wimbledon is brighter overall.
- Check the roots. Wimbledon’s wheat-blonde roots are a distinguishing feature when the photo is close enough to show them.
- Be cautious with heavy filters or cropped images. Warm and golden tones shift under stage lighting, flash, and editing, so the caption carries more weight than the apparent color.
What “honey blonde” means at the salon
Honey blonde is a broad color family rather than a standardized formula. Glamour’s August 2026 honey-blonde guide describes it as dimensional warm blonde that combines honey, caramel, and buttery hues. The same guide quotes hairstylist Jason Collier, founder of Studio23 and a key opinion leader for Jerome Russell Bblonde: “Warm blondes have golden, honey, caramel or buttery hues that create a soft, sun-kissed finish.”
The starting color changes the approach. Glamour explains that hair which is already blonde may be warmed with a gloss or toner, while darker hair may need strategically placed highlights or balayage. This is why two people copying the same photo can end up with different results.

Taking a photo to your colorist
Published reporting does not disclose Zendaya’s salon formula, application map, levels, developer, or processing times, so no reliable recipe can be built from it. The most practical approach is to bring a dated photo and ask a colorist what is realistic for your hair.
- Choose the single photo that matches the look you want, and note its event and date.
- Describe the target in words: “I’m looking for a warm, dimensional blonde with honey and wheat tones, and I’d like to use this photo as the reference.”
- Ask what your current color and history allow, and whether your hair can be lightened safely in one session.
- Ask for a plan that builds dimension, rather than a single flat shade, if the photo shows several tones.
- Compare the colorist’s proposal against the photo under daylight, not only under salon lighting.
Treat this wording as a suggestion for your own appointment, not a quote from Zendaya or her stylist.

Stylist and extension credits
Ursula Stephen
Allure credits Ursula Stephen for styling Zendaya’s newly lightened look at the Australian premiere. That credit covers the styling of that event; it does not establish that she applied the color for any other appearance in the same press cycle.
The Hair Shop Sandy Blonde (#840)
In ESSENCE’s 2024 interview coverage, Stephen said The Hair Shop had a good color match to enhance Zendaya’s new blonde look, which was described as Sandy Blonde (#840). This is a specific extension color reference. It does not show that extensions created the hair color itself, that every pictured style used them, or that this shade is currently sold. Keeping a warm blonde looking fresh
Glamour’s guide recommends color-refreshing products between salon visits and notes that a color-depositing mask can refresh tone at home. Its general advice for lightened hair includes conditioning the lengths and limiting heat styling to help preserve a healthy-looking finish. This is expert guidance for warm blondes in general, not Zendaya’s reported routine.
- Use a toning or gloss product only after checking that its directions and shade suit your current hair; Glamour lists L’Oréal Paris Le Color One Step Toning Hair Gloss as one general option, but the source does not show that Zendaya used it.
- Try a color-depositing mask as a between-appointment refresh, and test it on a small section first.
- Condition the lengths regularly and reduce heat, since warm tones show dullness and uneven fading quickly.
What the coverage does not establish
- The exact product, formula, or processing steps used for any of the three looks.
- Whether the same colorist or method was used across the premiere, London, and Wimbledon appearances.
- Zendaya’s personal maintenance routine.
- Any measured trend or demand figure for honey-blonde color.
For the strongest reference, use the dated photo captions from the outlets named above, and match the look to its event rather than to a single word like “honey.”
