Zac Posen designed GapStudio, a segment Gap launched in April 2025 to carry red-carpet-influenced tailoring into shoppable everyday pieces. The first collection, Collection 01, was announced on April 1, 2025 and launched on April 3. The price story is narrower than the “under $300” label suggests: launch coverage described the line as under $250, and Gap’s launch announcement does not set a permanent price ceiling for every piece or season.
What GapStudio is
Gap’s April 1, 2025 announcement presented GapStudio as a new segment representing the brand’s highest expression of style, craftsmanship, and quality. Gap said the segment was created inside its New York headquarters and described Collection 01 as showing expert tailoring, intricate details, and a modern take on American style.
The structure matters for shoppers. GapStudio is a segment within Gap, not a separate luxury company. Its proposition joins Gap’s familiar wardrobe categories with more elaborate construction and a fashion-led presentation.
Who designed it and where the idea came from
Zac Posen designed the first collection. He joined Gap Inc. in 2024 as executive vice president and creative director.

The Met Gala gown as the starting point
In his launch-day interview with the Associated Press, Posen traced the idea to the custom denim gown he made for Da’Vine Joy Randolph at the 2024 Met Gala. He said the response showed “a new facet of my creativity and what Gap could represent culturally.” The AP report says consumer interest followed the gown. That is Posen’s account of the connection, not an independently measured demand result, and no survey or sales figure has been published to confirm the effect.
Posen on red-carpet clothing
Marie Claire later relayed a comment Posen made in a Vogue interview: “If Louis Vuitton can have ball gowns that they don’t produce on a red carpet in order to sell luggage, why can’t Gap have a T-shirt gown on the red carpet? But we’ll actually produce it.” The remark captures the premise of the line: a design idea that starts on a red carpet is meant to be made and sold. The quote is Posen’s, as printed in Vogue and repeated by Marie Claire.

Collection 01: the launch timeline and contents
April 1, 2025: the announcement
Gap announced GapStudio and Collection 01 on April 1, 2025. Mark Breitbard, then President and CEO of Gap brand, said in the release: “For over 55 years, Gap has been a canvas for creativity, allowing creators to reinvent Gap classics as personal expressions of style. Now with GapStudio, we’re taking that legacy to the next level.”
April 3, 2025: the launch

Later seasons: the Fall 2026 collection
On August 28, 2026, Gap announced a Fall 2026 GapStudio wardrobe of 20 pieces. The announcement shows that GapStudio has continued as a seasonal line rather than ending with the launch. The prices below are the examples listed in that release. They belong to Fall 2026, not to Collection 01.

Every price Gap published for the named items sits below $300, and the highest listed figure in the Fall 2026 examples is $168. That is a pattern across named items, not a guarantee. Prices can change through markdowns, new drops, and inventory, and the sources here do not show a current item-by-item price list. As of October 8, 2026, the safe answer is that the examples are under $300, while the full current range needs a live check.

- Open Gap’s official GapStudio collection page.
- Confirm which season a piece belongs to. Launch-era prices from 2025 and Fall 2026 prices are not interchangeable.
- Check the price on the individual product page for your size and color, since the listed release price may differ from the live price.
The published record supports a clear conclusion: GapStudio began as a launch-era line priced below $250 in press coverage, and it has continued into 2026 with named items priced from $34 to $168. The “under $300” label is a fair summary of the examples, but not a fixed promise about every product.
