It draws on the manga and the anime, so it includes relationships that develop later in the story. Spoiler warning: the Choso and Shibuya Incident sections discuss events from later in the story.
Why there is no official list
The official character rosters name Yuji’s principal cast, but they do not measure how close any two characters are. The official character summaries do describe a few specific relationships in plain terms, and those are the strongest anchors for any ranking. Everything else in the order below is interpretation, and the sections that follow explain how each placement was reached.
How this ranking is built
Each person was placed using five questions:
- Duration: how long the two characters have known each other on the page.
- Interaction: how often they share scenes, missions, or training.
- Trust: whether Yuji relies on them, and whether they rely on him, when the stakes are high.
- Support: whether they stand with Yuji through danger, injury, or grief.
- Bond type: whether the relationship is friendship, mentorship, family-like, or a working alliance.
Bond type matters most for the lower placements. A mentor can matter enormously to Yuji without being a peer friend, so mentors are ranked separately from friends in the table rather than mixed into the top tier.
The ranked list
| Rank | Character | Bond type |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Megumi Fushiguro | Core peer friend |
| 2 | Nobara Kugisaki | Core peer friend |
| 3 | Choso | Later bond, brother-like |
| 4 | Maki Zenin | Classmate and trainer-peer |
| 5 | Panda | Classmate |
| 6 | Toge Inumaki | Classmate |
| 7 | Aoi Todo | Sparring friend |
| 8 | Yuta Okkotsu | Peer ally |
| 9 | Junpei Yoshino | Brief friendship |
| 10 | Kento Nanami | Mentor figure |
| 11 | Satoru Gojo | Mentor |
| 12 | Shoko Ieiri | Medical ally |
| 13 | Hiroki Kusakabe | Working ally |
| 14 | Shinobu Ijichi | Working ally |
| 15 | Wasuke Itadori | Family, raised Yuji |
The table is an editorial order. Reasonable readers may rank the middle group differently, especially Maki, Panda, and Toge, whose closeness to Yuji depends on which arcs a reader weights most.

Core peers: Megumi and Nobara
Megumi Fushiguro (rank 1)
Megumi is a first-year at the Tokyo school alongside Yuji, and the official character summary describes his commitment to protecting the people he cares about. That value is the basis of their bond: the two spend much of the series on the same missions and make the same kind of sacrifices. Megumi ranks first because he scores highest on duration, interaction, and trust among the core cast, not because the series labels him Yuji’s best friend.
Nobara Kugisaki (rank 2)
Nobara is the other first-year in the core group and appears alongside Yuji and Megumi in the first-season cast. Her placement reflects the same shared history and mission work. She sits just below Megumi because the official material gives less specific emphasis to her relationship with Yuji than to his with Megumi.
Rank #2
- Fight curses and be in the action - Satoru Gojo is a special grade sorcerer who has inherited both the Limitless and Six Eyes, and he is the eccentric but very talented teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High. A bond that deepens later: Choso (rank 3)
Choso is placed third because the official character summary describes a distinctive arc. He first targets Yuji as an enemy, but comes to sense that Yuji is also his younger brother, and after the Shibuya Incident he acts alongside Yuji. This is the clearest example in the official material of a relationship that moves from opposition to family-like loyalty, and it is why Choso ranks above classmates who have known Yuji longer.
Classmates and friends from the Tokyo school
- Maki Zenin (rank 4): a senior at the Tokyo school whose training and combat role give her a trusted place in Yuji’s circle.
- Panda (rank 5): a fellow Tokyo student whose friendship is part of the school’s shared daily life.
- Toge Inumaki (rank 6): a fellow Tokyo student; his placement reflects shared school time rather than a single defining storyline.
- Aoi Todo (rank 7): a sparring partner with an openly declared friendship. His bond is strong in tone but has less shared history with Yuji than the core peers.
- Yuta Okkotsu (rank 8): a peer ally rather than a classmate, placed here for the trust and cooperation he shares with Yuji in later fights.
- Junpei Yoshino (rank 9): part of the first-season cast, but with less screen time alongside Yuji, so his bond is a brief friendship.
Mentors, allies, and family
These fifteen names are not all peer friends. Mentors and allies are labeled separately so the top of the list stays focused on friendship:

Rank #3
- Fight curses and be in the action - Yuji Itadori was living a normal life before he got involved with Megumi Fushiguro and entered the world of sorcerers after eating one of Sukuna's fingers and becoming the vessel for one of the most powerful cursed spirits in the show. Yuji joins Tokyo Jujutsu High and not only has to be the vessel for the King of Curses but, he also has to learn everything about being a sorcerer, get along with Nobara, and keep up with everything that Satoru throws his way

- Kento Nanami (rank 10): a mentor figure to Yuji. He matters deeply, but the relationship is one of guidance, not equal friendship.
- Satoru Gojo (rank 11): Yuji’s teacher and a central mentor. His influence is among the strongest in the story, which is why he ranks above other allies despite being a mentor rather than a peer.
- Shoko Ieiri (rank 12): a medical sorcerer who supports Yuji during several crises.
- Hiroki Kusakabe (rank 13) and Shinobu Ijichi (rank 14): working allies who appear around the Tokyo students during missions. Their placements reflect practical cooperation rather than personal closeness.
- Wasuke Itadori (rank 15): Yuji’s grandfather, who raised him. He is a family member, not a friend, and is included because a list of closest people should not omit the family relationship that shaped Yuji most.
