The jury acquitted both remaining defendants in the YSL trial of murder. Deamonte Kendrick, the rapper Yak Gotti, was found not guilty of every charge. Stillwell’s conviction was for firearm possession by a convicted felon previously convicted of a felony involving firearm use or possession, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The outcomes should not be described as both men being acquitted of everything: that applies to Kendrick, not Stillwell. The verdict and sentencing details were reported contemporaneously by The Associated Press.
What the murder charges concerned
The charges against Kendrick and Stillwell included allegations connected to the 2015 killing of Donovan Thomas Jr., also known as Big Nut. Stillwell also faced a charge tied to the 2022 killing of Shymel Drinks. Those were prosecution allegations; the jury acquitted both defendants of the murder charges it considered. How the trial reached its final verdict
The jury returned its verdict on December 3, 2024, after about 16 hours of deliberation over four days, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The proceedings began with six defendants at trial. Four pleaded guilty in October 2024, including Young Thug, leaving Kendrick and Stillwell for the final jury verdict.

The verdict ended the trial of those last two defendants, not every case stemming from the broader indictment. Fulton County prosecutors indicted 28 people in May 2022 under Georgia’s racketeering law, alleging a conspiracy and describing YSL as a criminal street gang. The defense disputed the prosecution’s account, challenging the reliability of testimony and the use of lyrics and social-media posts. These characterizations were contested claims made by the parties, not findings that should be confused with the jury’s verdicts. Courthouse News Service also reported that more than 170 witnesses testified.
What the verdict means—and what it does not
The verdict resolved the charges against Kendrick and Stillwell that went to this jury: Kendrick was acquitted on all counts, and Stillwell was acquitted of murder and major racketeering and gang counts but convicted on one firearm count. It did not determine the outcomes for every person named in the original indictment; others had separate pleas or proceedings.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s spokesperson, Jeff DiSantis, said, “We always respect the verdict of a jury,” as reported by The Associated Press. Stillwell’s defense attorney Max Schardt said the change came when Judge Whitaker took over the case, calling it “a turning point,” according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
