Check two separate things: whether the cloud encoder stopped sending video, and whether YouTube still considers the broadcast active or upcoming. If the encoder job expired but the YouTube event remains usable, restart or recreate the job and confirm a feed arrives. If YouTube shows the broadcast as ended or complete, schedule a new event if the existing one cannot be used; YouTube’s public guidance does not guarantee that every ended event can be reopened.
Why a scheduled YouTube event does not keep an encoder running
A YouTube scheduled event creates a viewing page; an encoder still has to send video to YouTube. YouTube’s setup instructions tell creators to enter the stream URL and key in the encoder, start the encoder, wait for a preview in Live Control Room, and go live when that workflow requires it. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains this feed-based workflow.
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings govern how the broadcast responds to encoder transmission. They do not establish that a third-party cloud service will keep a scheduled job alive, extend its duration, or renew an expired session. For an expiry cause or restart control, check the cloud encoder provider’s job status, schedule, and logs.
Restore the stream: check the encoder and YouTube separately
- Inspect the cloud encoder job. Open the provider’s dashboard and check whether the job is running, expired, failed, or stopped. Review its logs, configured end time, and any billing or resource limits. If the session expired, use that provider’s controls to resume it or create a replacement job; the exact control depends on the provider.
- Inspect the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the scheduled broadcast. Check whether a preview is arriving and whether YouTube marks the event upcoming, live, ended, or complete. Where YouTube’s workflow calls for it, wait for the preview and select Go live.
- Check auto-start and auto-stop. Review the event’s stream settings. YouTube says that when these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from the encoder. The API documentation describes auto-stop as stopping the broadcast around one minute after video transmission ends, not necessarily at the instant the feed drops. These settings do not renew an expired cloud job. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance and the YouTube Live Broadcasts API documentation describe these behaviors.
- Restore the feed if the event remains usable. Restart or recreate the cloud job, confirm it is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and key, then check for a preview in Live Control Room. Start the broadcast there if the current workflow requires it.
- Create a replacement event if necessary. If Live Control Room shows the broadcast ended or no longer offers the controls needed for your planned stream, schedule a new event and configure the encoder for it. YouTube’s public guidance does not guarantee that an explicitly ended event can be reopened in every state.
Prevent the next session expiry
- Check the cloud service’s scheduled duration, expiration setting, billing or resource limits, and job logs before the broadcast.
- Set the cloud job’s start and end times to cover the planned broadcast, including any setup or transition time you need.
- Confirm which system starts and stops the encoder job. A YouTube event schedule alone does not schedule a third-party cloud job.
- Test that the encoder sends a feed and that YouTube receives a preview before the public start.
- Arrange monitoring or an alert before the cloud job is due to expire.
- Verify auto-start and auto-stop settings for each event. YouTube says reuse settings copies those selections, so check them rather than assuming they suit the next broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube broadcast of uploaded video, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and includes a first day free with no card. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera broadcast. See StreamNeo or its plans. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
