Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStart with the exact warning in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then compare it with OBS’s streaming statistics. A YouTube stream-health warning describes a problem with the stream YouTube is receiving; by itself, it does not tell you whether the cause is network delivery, local rendering or encoding, or a mismatched setting. Check those clues separately before changing settings.
Read the YouTube warning before changing OBS
In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, note the warning’s exact wording, timestamp, and color beside the Health Indicator. YouTube describes red errors as critical and yellow errors as moderate; unresolved errors continue to appear. The message may point to a specific issue, such as bitrate, keyframe frequency, codec, resolution, frame rate, audio, or a mismatch between primary and backup streams. Use that detail to choose what to check rather than treating every warning as a dropped-frame problem. YouTube’s error-message guide
Check OBS’s streaming statistics
While the stream is running, inspect OBS’s streaming statistics and distinguish network dropped frames from rendering lag and encoding lag. They describe different stages of the stream path: delivery over the network versus local scene rendering or encoding. A network-related count calls for checking the outbound connection; rendering or encoding lag points toward local processing. The YouTube warning alone cannot distinguish these causes.
OBS’s current controls and labels can vary by version, so use the statistics view available in your installed OBS rather than relying on an assumed menu path. If the figures are unclear, compare them with OBS’s logs and current interface documentation. OBS’s encoding-performance guide

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Separate local output problems from delivery problems
Look at the encoder’s local preview or output, and at a local recording if you have one. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says poor appearance or sound can reflect an input-source or encoder issue; it advises checking encoder errors and CPU load. If local output looks and sounds healthy while YouTube reports trouble, investigate the outbound internet connection and test its strength. A speed test is only a snapshot: it does not prove the connection will remain stable throughout a broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide
Match the stream settings to YouTube’s requirements
Check the warning against the actual OBS output configuration. YouTube’s encoder-settings page lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 among supported settings, with frame rates up to 60 fps, CBR bitrate encoding, and AAC or MP3 audio. Requirements and recommendations can depend on the protocol and stream type, so match the setting to the exact warning rather than changing unrelated values. YouTube’s encoder settings

| H.264 output | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These figures are YouTube’s listed H.264 values, viewed on its encoder-settings page on October 3, 2026. They are configuration guidance, not a guarantee that an internet connection with the same nominal upload speed can sustain a live stream reliably. Match bitrate to codec, resolution, and frame rate, and leave adequate, stable upload capacity for the stream.
Keyframes and GOP
YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds. Its error guidance says a frame-rate change requires revisiting keyframe frequency; for 30 fps, a two-second interval corresponds to every 60 frames. YouTube also specifies a Closed GOP for optimal transcoding. If the warning names keyframes or format, verify these settings in OBS against YouTube’s current guidance. YouTube’s error-message guide

Test before a broadcast
YouTube recommends testing before going live with audio and motion similar to the actual broadcast, monitoring stream health during the event, and choosing a quality level the internet connection can reliably support. A test with a static image or little movement may not reveal issues that occur during the real program. YouTube’s encoder settings
When OBS shows rendering or encoding strain
OBS explains that compositing and rendering scenes use GPU resources. On macOS, its performance guide points to Activity Monitor for inspecting GPU use. If OBS reports local performance overload, reduce output resolution or frame rate and simplify scenes; these changes can lower processing demand. In Activity Monitor, close only applications you recognize and opened. Do not apply Windows-specific advice from the OBS guide—such as running OBS as administrator or changing Windows Game Mode—to a Mac mini. The guide was published June 12, 2021, so exact controls may have moved even though its general performance guidance may still help. OBS’s performance guide

When OBS shows network dropped frames
Test outbound connection strength under conditions as close as possible to the broadcast: same network, similar household or office activity, and the intended stream bitrate. Compare the result with YouTube’s bitrate guidance for your codec, resolution, and frame rate. If the connection test identifies a problem, YouTube advises contacting your internet service provider. If the connection cannot reliably support the selected output, lower the bitrate or choose a lower resolution or frame rate, then test again. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance
An Ethernet connection is an optional way to test a wired network path instead of relying on Wi-Fi; it is not a guaranteed fix or a YouTube-prescribed remedy. It may not resolve ISP congestion, router problems, or other causes. Check your Mac mini’s ports and network setup before buying an adapter or cable.

Troubleshoot by symptom
- YouTube names a specific setting: Check that setting in OBS against YouTube’s guidance for the selected protocol and stream type. Avoid changing unrelated settings.
- OBS reports network dropped frames and local output looks normal: Test outbound connection strength, compare the chosen bitrate with YouTube’s guidance, and lower output demands if the connection is unstable.
- OBS reports rendering or encoding lag: Inspect GPU use in Activity Monitor, simplify scenes, and reduce output resolution or frame rate.
- The local preview or recording also looks or sounds poor: Check the input source, encoder errors, and CPU load before treating the issue as a network fault.
- The warning appears only intermittently: Preserve its timestamp and compare it with OBS statistics and network conditions at that time; a later speed test cannot establish what happened earlier.
