An OBS network dropped-frame counter means the stream is having trouble getting from the VPS to YouTube’s ingest server, or the connection cannot sustain the configured bitrate. It does not, by itself, prove that evening congestion in India is the cause. Compare OBS counters, YouTube’s stream-health messages and repeated measurements during affected and unaffected periods before blaming the provider or changing hardware.
First identify which frames are being lost
OBS distinguishes network dropped frames from rendering lag and encoding lag. They point to different problems, so note the specific counter that rises rather than treating any frame warning as a network fault. OBS’s official guide says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the streaming client and the remote ingest server (OBS connection troubleshooting, published September 30, 2024).
- Network dropped frames: investigate delivery from the VPS to YouTube’s ingest server and whether the connection can sustain the chosen bitrate.
- Rendering or encoding lag: these are separate from network delivery. Record those counters too, but do not use them as evidence of evening network congestion.
A rising network counter supports investigating the client-to-ingest path; it does not identify which part of that path is responsible.
Check whether YouTube sees the same problem
At the same timestamps as the OBS counter rises, check stream-health warnings in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents health and configuration issue categories including bitrate, frame rate, codec, keyframe frequency, audio and video. One example warns that YouTube is not receiving enough video for smooth streaming (YouTube Live Streaming API health status).

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Match each warning to the OBS symptom. A health warning may concern stream configuration or media delivery; it is useful diagnostic evidence, but is not by itself proof that an Indian VPS provider is congested.
Measure the VPS connection during the problem window
- Record a baseline. During both affected and unaffected periods, note the timestamp, OBS network dropped frames, output bitrate, rendering and encoding lag counters, and any disconnection. Keep the OBS log for each session.
- Check YouTube’s health messages. Record the warnings and their times from Live Control Room. Compare them against the OBS log rather than relying on a single status message.
- Test upload capacity from the VPS. YouTube recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate (YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions). Repeat tests during a representative evening window and at a quieter time. A single brief result does not establish that the route will remain stable through an event.
- Run a representative preflight stream. Test before the event with motion and audio similar to the real programme. Monitor OBS and YouTube health during the test, ideally across the period when the drops usually occur.
- Compare routes only when you can measure them. If the problem continues, compare results across times and, where possible, ingest destinations or hosting routes. The official guidance supports investigating the client-to-ingest connection; it does not establish a preferred Indian VPS provider or a specific YouTube endpoint.
For a provider or route comparison, use sustained upload capacity during the affected evening window, connection stability such as packet loss or jitter, compatibility with YouTube’s encoder guidance, stream-health results in a representative test, and the resulting picture quality at the chosen bitrate. Without comparable measurements, a provider ranking would be guesswork.

Adjust bitrate only when the measurements support it
If testing indicates the connection cannot reliably sustain the configured bitrate, lowering the target may help keep delivery stable, at the cost of image quality. OBS dynamic bitrate can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, but OBS warns this does not solve the underlying connection issue and may reduce quality (OBS dynamic bitrate). Treat it as a mitigation while investigating the path, not proof that congestion has been fixed.
YouTube’s recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution and frame rate. Choose settings using YouTube’s guidance for the stream you are actually sending; a speed-test result alone is not a guarantee that a VPS-to-ingest route will be stable at that bitrate.

Common symptoms and what to do
| What you observe | What it establishes | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| OBS network dropped frames rise during the stream | A delivery problem between the streaming client and ingest server is indicated; the cause and location are not identified. | Record timestamps and output bitrate, then compare with YouTube health messages and repeated upload tests. |
| Drops appear mainly in the evening | The timing is a useful clue, not proof that Indian network congestion is responsible. | Repeat tests during affected and unaffected periods and compare the VPS route and stream-health results. |
| YouTube reports that it is not receiving enough video | YouTube is reporting a stream-health problem, but this message alone does not identify the cause. | Match its timestamp to OBS counters, bitrate and test results; check other configuration warnings as well. |
| Dynamic bitrate reduces drops | The lower bitrate may be easier for the connection to sustain; it does not establish that the route problem is resolved. | Assess the quality trade-off and continue investigating the connection path. |
| Rendering or encoding lag rises instead | This is not the same signal as OBS network dropped frames. | Keep the diagnosis separate; do not attribute it to the VPS-to-ingest network based on that counter alone. |
Do not assume a local hardware fix
For a stream originating on a VPS, a cable or adapter at home is not an established remedy: the relevant delivery path is from the VPS to YouTube’s ingest server. The evidence needed here is time-correlated software, platform and connection measurements, not an assumed local hardware fault.

If your goal is to keep an uploaded programme looping on YouTube around the clock rather than diagnose and operate an OBS stream from a VPS, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. This is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and it does not repair a VPS-to-ingest route problem. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
