If YouTube says “too many concurrent broadcasts” when you try to start a stream, the exact cause and a guaranteed fix are not established by YouTube’s encoder guide. Check that your Live Control Room stream and encoder are configured as intended; if the message persists, ask YouTube for account- and stream-specific help rather than assuming a particular cause.
What the message does—and doesn’t—tell you
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe how to create and start a stream, but do not explain this exact “too many concurrent broadcasts” message or give an error-specific remedy. The available official guidance therefore does not establish whether the trigger is an account limit, a stream state, the encoder, or something else. Don’t treat any of those possibilities as confirmed.
YouTube supports live streaming by webcam, mobile device, or encoder; an encoder can be software or standalone hardware. The official guide lists encoder options but does not say that changing equipment fixes this error. Buying or replacing an encoder is not a verified troubleshooting step.
Check the documented encoder setup
If you are streaming with an encoder, compare your setup with YouTube’s documented sequence. These steps verify the configuration; they are not a confirmed cure for the concurrent-broadcast message.

- Confirm live streaming is enabled. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. That is an enablement delay, not an explanation for this particular error.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy that stream’s URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Make sure you have selected the intended stream before copying its details.
- Start the encoder. If the stream is scheduled, wait until its preview appears in Live Control Room, then select Go live.

If the message remains
- Recheck that the selected Live Control Room stream, stream URL, and stream key belong together, and that the encoder is sending to the intended stream.
- For a scheduled stream, confirm that the preview is visible before selecting Go live.
- If those checks match your setup and YouTube still shows the message, contact YouTube Help or use the community help route linked from its encoder guide. Include the exact error text and explain which stream and encoder workflow you are using; YouTube will need to diagnose your specific account and stream.
The guide reviewed here does not provide an error-specific procedure, so there is no verified workaround to promise. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that information concerns archiving, not the cause or fix for this message.
