Start by checking that your encoder has the correct YouTube RTMPS URL and stream key, can make a TLS connection to the ingestion host on port 443 with SNI, and is allowed outbound through both DigitalOcean Cloud Firewalls and the droplet’s own firewall. If those checks pass, inspect YouTube’s stream status and health diagnostics: a connected stream can still fail because of its media configuration. The available official documentation does not establish Bangalore as the cause.
1. Verify YouTube’s RTMPS URL and stream key

Open YouTube Live Control Room and select the stream’s Stream tab, or open the scheduled stream. Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL from the Stream URL field. YouTube may show the ordinary RTMP URL by default, so explicitly choose RTMPS. See YouTube’s RTMPS setup instructions.

Copy the matching stream key into the encoder’s stream-name or key field. Depending on the encoder, the server URL and key may be separate fields, or the key may be appended to the URL as
STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME. Use the exact current values shown for that stream. -
If you configure an encoder through YouTube’s API, the primary address is
cdn.ingestionInfo.rtmpsIngestionAddress; the documented backup iscdn.ingestionInfo.rtmpsBackupIngestionAddress. Check the encoder’s field format before combining the URL and key. Re-copy the URL and key if either may have been mistyped, truncated, or left over from another stream. A correct key paired with the wrong endpoint—or the ordinary RTMP endpoint instead of RTMPS—will not establish the intended connection.
2. Check RTMPS, TLS, port 443, and SNI
YouTube RTMPS requires an rtmps URL pointing to a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and RTMP carried over SSL/TLS. The connection must use TCP port 443, and the TLS handshake must send SNI matching the hostname in the ingestion URL. A client that opens a TCP connection but sends unencrypted RTMP, omits SNI, or uses the wrong host or port can still fail.
From the droplet, substitute the hostname from YouTube’s current ingestion URL in these diagnostic commands:

openssl s_client -connect <ingestion-host>:443 -servername <ingestion-host>The first checks whether TCP can reach that host and port. The second attempts a TLS handshake while explicitly setting SNI. A successful result does not prove that the encoder can complete an RTMPS session or that YouTube considers the audio and video healthy; it narrows down the failure stage. YouTube identifies a wrong server name, wrong port, or improper SSL setup as possible causes of RTMPS trouble. If the encoder reports an SSL error or times out after TCP appears to connect, check its RTMPS/TLS support, certificate validation, SNI behavior, and whether it is wrapping RTMP in TLS. YouTube notes that an encoder may not support RTMPS; see its RTMPS troubleshooting guidance.
3. Check outbound rules at both firewall layers
DigitalOcean Cloud Firewalls are separate from firewall software inside the droplet. If both are in use, inspect both. Check every Cloud Firewall attached to the droplet, not just one of them.

Confirm effective outbound rules allow TCP traffic to port 443 and to the YouTube ingestion destination. When outbound rules are configured, traffic that matches no rule is denied.

Do not mistake an inbound rule for the required permission: this is an outbound connection from the droplet to YouTube.

DigitalOcean’s quickstart says a firewall with no configured outbound rules permits no outbound traffic; its suggested outbound rules allow all destinations and ports. See DigitalOcean’s firewall quickstart and Cloud Firewall rule management.

Droplet host firewall
Inside the droplet, inspect whichever host firewall is installed or configured, such as UFW or iptables. Look for outbound restrictions that block TCP 443 or the destination. A permissive Cloud Firewall does not override a restrictive host rule, and vice versa.

If the encoder establishes its RTMPS session but YouTube does not show a healthy stream, check the stream’s status and health rather than treating every error as a network failure. The Live Streams API exposes statuses including active, created, error, inactive, and ready, along with status.healthStatus.configurationIssues[]. See the Live Streams API reference.
YouTube’s health diagnostics cover issues such as missing audio or video, unsupported codecs, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and insufficient video data. For the listed long or overlong GOP issues, YouTube says keyframes should occur every four seconds or less; its videoCodec diagnostic identifies H.264 as the supported video codec. These are media-configuration signals, not proof that TCP or TLS failed. See YouTube’s stream health guidance.

5. Treat Bangalore as context, not a diagnosis
The official YouTube and DigitalOcean documentation describes general RTMPS requirements and firewall behavior; it does not establish that DigitalOcean’s Bangalore region blocks YouTube RTMPS or that a regional incident is active. The region alone therefore cannot identify the cause. To narrow down an individual failure, collect the exact encoder error, the droplet’s Cloud Firewall and host-firewall rules, the TCP/TLS test output, and YouTube’s stream status and health details.
6. Troubleshoot by the stage that fails
