Then compare the same stream over Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet. A changing bitrate alone does not identify the cause: it may point to an encoder configuration, a local network segment, or an upload or ingestion problem, and the official guidance cited here does not establish an Airtel-specific fault.
Start with the encoder and YouTube’s stream-health report
Before changing settings, write down the output resolution, frame rate, codec, configured bitrate, and any bitrate or network warnings reported by your encoder. During a test stream, open YouTube Live Control Room and check stream health. YouTube’s diagnostic categories include bitrate, frame rate, codec, keyframe or GOP configuration, and video ingestion starvation. The API documentation describes videoIngestionStarved as YouTube not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming; examples of configuration issue codes include bitrateHigh, bitrateLow, gopSizeLong, openGop, and videoCodec (YouTube Live Streaming API: Configuration Issues; LiveStreams API reference).
- If YouTube names a configuration issue: correct the setting that matches the warning, then retest.
- If YouTube reports ingestion starvation: investigate whether the encoder is delivering video steadily, including the local network path.
- If there is no configuration warning: that does not prove the home upload path is stable. Continue with a controlled network comparison.
A health message identifies a reported condition; it does not, by itself, prove that Airtel or your encoder caused it.
Match bitrate to codec, resolution, and frame rate
YouTube’s encoder table gives different targets for different codecs. These H.264 examples are ingestion guidance, not measurements of Airtel Xstream Fiber performance and not a guarantee that a connection can sustain the selected rate. The page does not display a publication year.

Use the row for your actual codec, resolution, and frame rate. AV1 and H.265 have different figures in YouTube’s full table, which also covers other resolutions and frame rates. Avoid applying an H.264 number to a different codec. See YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Check rate control and keyframes
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Its stream-health guidance warns that a keyframe interval longer than four seconds can cause buffering. Confirm the encoder is actually using the intended values, not just that those values appear in a saved profile.

- Set the encoder’s rate control to CBR.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health message after applying a change. If it names a specific codec, bitrate, frame-rate, or GOP issue, address that issue rather than changing unrelated settings.
- Retest with the same stream profile and representative motion and audio so the comparison is meaningful.
For settings and full bitrate tables, use YouTube’s encoder guidance and its configuration-issue descriptions.
Compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet
To see whether Wi-Fi is part of the problem, keep the encoder, stream profile, and device the same and connect the computer directly to the ONT/router by Ethernet, if possible. Airtel’s home troubleshooting guidance identifies an RJ45 Cat5 or Cat6 LAN cable for this connection. It also notes that 2.4 GHz generally reaches farther, while 5 GHz can provide faster speeds at shorter range (Airtel: troubleshooting an Xstream Fiber connection at home).

- Stable on Ethernet, unstable on Wi-Fi: the Wi-Fi segment may be associated with the symptom. This comparison does not identify whether the cause is placement, interference, or other equipment.
- Unstable on both: Wi-Fi alone is less likely to explain the symptom; continue checking the encoder and collect observations for support.
- No Ethernet port or cable available: you can still check the encoder and health report, but you cannot use this test to compare the wired path.
A cable is useful only for performing the comparison; buying one or switching to Ethernet is not a guaranteed fix. The cited Airtel guidance is general home troubleshooting, not a diagnosis of a particular line.
Check RTMPS when the problem is a connection error
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP through SSL/TLS. Treat this as a setup check when the encoder reports connection errors, timeouts, or SSL errors—not as a remedy for fluctuating throughput by itself. YouTube’s RTMPS documentation says to use an RTMPS endpoint and port 443, and that the server hostname is required for authentication through SNI. A wrong server or port can cause an SSL error; sending cleartext RTMP to an endpoint expecting RTMPS can cause a timeout. Follow the endpoint and setup instructions for your stream rather than guessing at a server address (YouTube Live Streaming API: Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS; documentation last updated 2026-09-14 UTC).

Run a controlled test and keep useful evidence
Change one variable at a time. Keep the stream profile constant when comparing Wi-Fi and Ethernet; if you change bitrate or another encoder setting, record that change and the result. A generic speed-test result is not proof that a live stream will maintain its chosen bitrate continuously. Compare upload observations from the same device and connection, and note when the symptom recurs.
If you contact Airtel or YouTube support, provide the time of each incident, encoder logs, the output settings, YouTube’s exact health messages, and whether the same setup reproduces over Ethernet. Airtel’s cited article directs customers to its Thanks app and customer support line 121 from a registered mobile number; check Airtel’s current support information for availability.
