As of October 3, 2026, YouTube’s standard Partner Program (YPP) threshold for ad and YouTube Premium revenue is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. In regions where expanded YPP is available, some creators can apply earlier for certain fan-funding and Shopping features. Neither threshold guarantees acceptance: YouTube reviews the channel for policy compliance.
Which YPP threshold do you need?
YouTube has two distinct eligibility levels. The lower, expanded YPP level can unlock certain fan-funding and eligible Shopping features; it is not the threshold for Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, or YouTube Premium revenue sharing. The standard level covers eligibility to apply for those ad and Premium revenue features.

For either route, the watch-hour and Shorts-view figures are alternatives, not totals to combine. YouTube says watch hours from Shorts views in the Shorts Feed do not count toward the 4,000-hour standard watch-time route. Expanded YPP availability depends on your location and feature
The expanded program is not available everywhere, and individual features can have additional country, region, or feature-specific requirements. Check the current expanded YPP availability and eligibility information or the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for your channel. Do not assume that the lower threshold is available in your country or that every expanded-YPP feature will be available to your channel.

Requirements beyond subscribers and viewing activity
Meeting a numeric threshold is only one part of eligibility. YouTube’s current overview also requires a channel to:
- Follow YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
- Be based in a country or region where YPP is available.
- Have no active Community Guidelines strikes.
- Have 2-Step Verification turned on for the Google Account.
- Have access to YouTube advanced features.
- Link one active AdSense for YouTube account, or create one in YouTube Studio during signup. YouTube advises creating a new account through Studio.
Check the policy requirements and your channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before applying. The numbers make a channel eligible to submit an application; they do not override the policy review.

How to apply in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube and open YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn from the left menu.
- When your channel is eligible for the relevant tier, select Apply Now.
- Review and accept the base terms.
- Start or link an active AdSense for YouTube account. If you need a new one, follow the signup flow in Studio.
- Return to Earn and check the Get Reviewed step for your application status.
You can complete signup using a computer or mobile device. YouTube says the application enters the review queue after the signup steps, including accepting the terms and linking an active AdSense for YouTube account, are complete.
What happens after you apply?
YouTube uses automated systems and human reviewers to assess the channel as a whole against its monetization policies and guidelines. Crossing a subscriber or viewing threshold is therefore not an acceptance decision. Review the channel’s overall content and compliance rather than relying on one video or one metric to predict the outcome.
YouTube says decisions typically arrive in about one month, but volume, system issues, resource limits, or additional review can delay them. Monitor the status in Studio rather than treating that estimate as a deadline.

If YouTube rejects the application
According to YouTube’s current overview, after a first rejection you can appeal within 21 days or make changes and reapply after 30 days. After a later rejection, the stated wait to reapply is 90 days. Read the notice in Studio and the current official guidance to confirm which route and timing apply to your case.
If your counts change while the application is pending
YouTube says it will still review an application after the channel has met the threshold and applied, even if its counts change while the application is pending. Changes to video privacy or deleting videos can affect application status, so do not assume that a count fluctuation alone determines the result.

Keeping monetization after acceptance
YPP membership does not remove ongoing policy obligations. YouTube may turn off monetization when a channel violates its channel monetization policies, regardless of its subscriber or watch-hour totals. YouTube also reserves the right to turn off monetization for channels that have not uploaded a video or posted to the Posts tab for six months or more. Scheduled threshold change announced for February 1, 2027
As of October 3, 2026, YouTube has announced that new creators seeking the updated ad and Premium entry threshold from February 1, 2027 will need 1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 qualified watch hours in the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. YouTube says existing YPP creators will not be affected by this entry-threshold update. The announcement says the earlier fan-funding and Shopping thresholds remain at 500 subscribers, three uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views. These are announced future rules, not the thresholds in force on October 3, 2026; check YouTube’s YPP changes announcement for updates before relying on the scheduled date or details.

Keeping a documentary channel live is separate from YPP eligibility
