Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFirst identify which indicator is red: YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room stream status reports the incoming stream and can show a specific error, while a viewer’s Stats for nerds Buffer Health reading describes how much video the player has buffered. They are different signals, so the right fix depends on where the warning appears. A prerecorded file can keep looping on your computer even while the upload or viewers’ playback has a problem.
1. Identify where the red warning appears
Live Control Room: creator-side stream status
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and note the exact stream-status wording and when it appears. YouTube says stream status includes specific error messages and instructions; use that message as the starting point rather than guessing what “red” means. See YouTube’s live-stream metrics guidance.
Stats for nerds: viewer-side Buffer Health
If a viewer sees a low or red Buffer Health reading in Stats for nerds, investigate playback instead. YouTube describes this buffer as read-ahead data that helps the player cope with changes in internet speed. Ask whether the issue affects multiple viewers, devices, or networks. A problem isolated to one viewer is different evidence from a warning in the creator’s Live Control Room.
2. Use the evidence to choose the next check
| What you observe | Likely area to investigate | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| A specific warning in Live Control Room | Creator-side stream, encoder, or ingest status | Follow the warning; check encoder output and sustainable upload. |
| Dropped frames in OBS | Connection from the encoder toward YouTube’s ingest | Check upload capacity and encoder output. |
| No OBS dropped frames, but some viewers buffer | Viewer playback, device, network, or latency | Compare affected devices and networks, then review stream latency. |
| The issue returns at the same point in every loop | The source segment or transition is a testable possibility | Inspect that section and test a clean or simplified loop; treat this as a hypothesis, not a confirmed cause. |
OBS recommends checking its dropped-frame counter. A nonzero count supports investigating the connection; no dropped frames do not rule out viewer-side buffering. Change one relevant variable at a time, then compare the YouTube status, OBS statistics, and viewer reports. That makes it easier to tell whether a change helped.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Check encoder settings and upload capacity
Run an upload speed test, then test the stream before going live with audio and video movement representative of the actual program. YouTube advises monitoring stream health during the event and reviewing its messages. Its encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe frequency, with an interval no longer than four seconds. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and select recommendations for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you are sending.
H.264 bitrate examples from YouTube’s recommendation table
| Resolution and frame rate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations for H.264, not guarantees that your connection can sustain the bitrate. YouTube lists different recommendations for AV1 and H.265. Don’t copy a number without matching it to the codec and output configuration actually in use, and allow enough upload headroom for a stable connection.

4. Troubleshoot dropped frames in OBS
Open OBS’s statistics and inspect the dropped-frame counter while streaming. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance puts dropped frames first: if the counter rises, investigate the upload path to the ingest server and whether your connection can sustain the configured bitrate. If it stays at zero while viewers report buffering, shift the investigation to their playback conditions rather than assuming the local loop is failing.
5. Adjust latency only for viewer-side buffering
YouTube explains that lower latency leaves the player with less read-ahead buffer, making playback more vulnerable to fluctuations between encoder and viewer. For a prerecorded loop that does not require real-time interaction, compare the current setting with Normal latency in a controlled test. YouTube describes Normal latency as its highest-quality viewer option with the lowest amount of viewer buffering for non-interactive streams. Ultra-low latency is intended for highly interactive streams; it can increase the chance of buffering. See YouTube’s latency guidance.

6. Inspect the loop only when the timing points to it
If the symptom reliably returns at the same timestamp or transition in each pass, compare the source segment and loop boundary. Test a clean copy or simplified loop and see whether the timing changes. This is an isolation test, not a documented general cause of a red stream-health status: the official guidance does not establish that looping itself causes that warning. The file playing locally proves only that local playback continues; it does not prove the upload or viewer playback is healthy.

If maintaining a continuous prerecorded YouTube loop on a local computer is inconvenient, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube. The diagnostic steps above still matter: moving a loop to the cloud does not establish or guarantee a fix for a particular red health warning.
