If YouTube Live Redirect is missing, a destination stream does not appear, or viewers stay on your ended stream, check the failure point: sender eligibility, destination-channel permissions, target availability, and the redirect saved on the correct source item. If the source broadcast itself never starts, troubleshoot that separately. A redirect is an autoplay handoff after the source ends, not an instant forced transfer.
Identify what is failing
- No Redirect option, or you cannot send a redirect: check the sending channel’s eligibility.
- The destination is missing from the list: check the receiving channel’s permissions and whether the target is an eligible live stream or Premiere.
- The destination is selected, but viewers are not moving: verify the redirect on the intended source item and allow a few seconds for the player to reload.
- The source broadcast will not start: investigate the stream restriction, encoder, or stream key; those are separate from redirect permissions.

Check the sending channel’s eligibility
YouTube says a channel can send a Live Redirect if it has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. This is the sender’s requirement; it does not mean the destination channel must also have more than 1,000 subscribers. If the sending channel does not meet the stated conditions, the redirect option may not be available.
Check the receiving channel’s redirect permissions
The receiving channel controls which channels may redirect viewers to its content. In the destination channel’s YouTube Studio, open Settings > Community and review the redirect permissions.

- Subscribed channels: channels the destination subscribes to can be permitted to redirect. YouTube notes that subscription privacy can affect this route; check whether the relevant subscriptions are public.
- All channels: permits redirects from any channel. YouTube says this choice cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel option or a manual approval list.
- Specific channels: manually approve channels. YouTube allows up to 100 channels in this list; specific approvals can be combined with the subscribed-channel option.
If the expected sender is not covered by the current permission choice, the target may not be selectable even when it is otherwise ready.
Make sure the destination is available
The destination must be an eligible YouTube live stream or an upcoming Premiere, and the receiving channel’s permission conditions must be met. YouTube’s TeamYouTube explanation says selectable cross-channel live streams are active or upcoming; upcoming Premieres can also be selected. If the destination channel has no active or upcoming eligible item, it may not appear in the list.

For a Premiere destination, schedule the Premiere before configuring the source live stream. YouTube lists scheduling it first as a best practice. See the dated TeamYouTube explanation of Live Redirect alongside YouTube’s feature instructions.
Set the redirect on the correct source item
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live.
- Edit the source live video or Premiere—the item whose viewers you want to send elsewhere.
- Open Customization, then find Redirect.
- Select Add and choose the eligible destination.
- Save or confirm the change in Studio, then check that the selected destination is the one you intended.
The redirect belongs to the source item. Setting permissions on the receiving channel does not, by itself, configure a handoff from your broadcast.

Allow for the end-of-stream handoff
YouTube describes the transition as autoplay after the source live stream or Premiere ends. The player may reload before the destination appears, so tell viewers to wait a few seconds rather than expecting an immediate transfer. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance describes the transition as approximately two seconds; treat that as guidance, not a guaranteed timing for every viewer or connection.
If viewers still are not redirected, confirm that the source ended normally and that the redirect was saved on that exact source item. A redirect is an autoplay behavior, not a guarantee that every viewer’s device or playback settings will complete the handoff.

If the source stream will not start, troubleshoot that separately
A redirect cannot hand viewers to a destination if the source broadcast never becomes available or ends unexpectedly. First determine whether the source actually went live. For restriction or encoder issues, use YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions and encoder troubleshooting.
- Third-party encoder reports an error: YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to check the stream key and update the encoder.
- The stream is live but viewers cannot access it: test access and monitor stream health using YouTube’s live streaming tips.
Resetting a stream key is not a documented fix for a missing redirect option or destination. Do not change redirect permissions to solve an encoder error unless you have also identified a permission problem.

When all checks pass but the destination is still missing
YouTube had a documented target-discovery issue in 2022: a TeamYouTube post dated May 3, 2022 said a subscriber-only cross-channel redirect option had temporarily been removed after technical issues, with manual approval offered as a workaround. The post later said the option would return. That historical report does not establish that the same issue is happening now. If the sender qualifies, the receiver’s permissions cover it, and the destination is active/upcoming or an upcoming Premiere but remains absent, the cited guidance does not identify an account-specific cause. Check the current Studio interface and contact YouTube support rather than assuming there is an active outage.
