First identify which list contains the repeated video: the YouTube playlist itself, or the separate queue in a service that sends prerecorded videos to a live broadcast. Then compare video IDs, not just titles. Matching IDs mean two entries point to the same upload; different IDs may be separate versions that belong in the list.
Find out which playlist has the duplicate
“Playlist” can refer to two different things in this setup:
- A YouTube playlist: a list of uploaded videos on YouTube.
- A broadcast queue: a playlist maintained by a streaming service to play prerecorded videos during a YouTube Live broadcast.
Open the YouTube playlist in question and check its entries. If the repeats appear only in a streaming service’s preview or scheduled broadcast, inspect that service’s saved playlist and event instead. YouTube’s Live Control Room handles stream settings and an encoder’s connection; a third-party service may maintain its own prerecorded-video queue.
Check whether the entries are the same upload
Titles and thumbnails can be identical or nearly identical without the underlying uploads being the same. Compare the video IDs—the unique identifiers associated with YouTube videos—where available. YouTube’s Data API treats a playlist entry and the video it contains as separate resources: each playlist item has its own item ID, and it identifies an included video by video ID. See the PlaylistItems resource.

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Same video ID: both entries point to the same YouTube upload.
- Different video IDs: they are separate uploads, even if their titles look alike. A lyric video, live performance, remix, cover, remaster, or alternate source may be intentional. Similar titles alone are not enough reason to remove one.
Remove only the unintended occurrence
If the YouTube playlist itself contains a repeated entry and you control it, confirm the playlist and the exact occurrence before deleting anything. In the YouTube Data API, deleting an entry requires its playlist-item ID, not the video ID of the upload. Google’s PlaylistItems: delete reference specifies that the id parameter is the playlist-item ID. The API also requires authorization, and some playlist operations may not be supported; see the API errors reference and implementation guidance.
- Record the playlist name or URL and the repeated entry’s position, title, channel, and video ID if visible.
- Verify that the selected entry is the occurrence you intend to remove—not another upload with a similar title.
- If using a tool or API, verify that it targets the correct playlist-item ID and that you are authorized to edit the playlist.
- Remove that occurrence, then reopen the playlist and confirm the intended entry remains.
If you do not own or have editing access to the playlist, you cannot remove its entries; contact the owner or report the issue to them with the playlist link and the relevant entry details.

Correct a duplicate in a prerecorded broadcast queue
If the YouTube playlist is clean but the repeated video appears in the broadcast service’s queue, make the correction in that service rather than deleting a YouTube playlist entry. Check both the saved playlist and the scheduled broadcast: a queue may have been edited after an event was prepared. For example, Restream’s prerecorded playlist instructions describe adding, removing, or rearranging videos before its playlist goes live. That workflow is specific to Restream; other services may use different controls.
- Open the prerecorded playlist or queue in the service that supplies the broadcast.
- Check for repeated entries in the saved list, then check the scheduled event’s selected playlist or queue.
- Remove or rearrange only the unintended queue entry, using that service’s own controls.
- Review the event preview or schedule to make sure the corrected queue is the one that will be sent live.
If the playlist looks clean but viewers still see repeats
If the stored YouTube playlist and any broadcast-service queue have no duplicate, do not assume a particular browser cache, account setting, encoder, or YouTube bug is responsible. The official documentation does not establish one cause for every duplicate display.

Record the playlist URL, account or channel, device or browser, time observed, and a screenshot. Recheck the playlist in another session. If the mismatch persists, contact YouTube Help with those details. This documents the discrepancy; it does not establish its cause.
Keep stream settings and archive limits in perspective
YouTube’s Live Control Room documentation covers encoder settings, stream keys, and the feed connection. Those settings help locate the live-stream workflow, but they do not show that streaming hardware causes duplicate playlist entries.

Archive duration is a separate issue: YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. This guidance concerns saved stream archives, not why a playlist might show repeated videos.
