Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If audio and video drift apart during a long YouTube Live loop, first find where the drift begins: in the source or local recording, in YouTube’s live playback, or only in the archive. That distinction determines what to investigate. YouTube’s guidance covers stream health, encoder settings, network conditions and viewer latency, but does not identify one universal cause or guaranteed fix for gradual live-stream sync drift.
Find the first point where audio and video separate
Compare the same moment at each stage of your workflow. This is a practical diagnostic approach based on YouTube’s advice to monitor stream health and verify local recordings; it is not a YouTube-published drift test.
- Check the source. Play the loop file locally and note whether the audio already leads or trails the picture.
- Check a local recording, if your setup makes one. Compare it with the source, especially near the start and after several hours.
- Check YouTube Live playback. Compare the live player with the local source or recording at the same point. If possible, check another device and connection.
- Check the YouTube archive after the stream. See whether the archived version matches the live player or differs from both the local recording and live playback.
Use the first stage where the mismatch appears to narrow the investigation:
- Source and local recording are out of sync: investigate source playback, audio routing and encoder timing before changing YouTube delivery settings.
- Local material is in sync, but YouTube Live is not: collect encoder health and network observations, and compare playback on another device or connection.
- Only one device or connection shows the problem: investigate that viewer’s playback conditions rather than assuming the stream output itself is drifting.
- Only the archive differs: inspect the recording and archive path. Do not assume a live-player setting will correct an archive-specific mismatch.
Run a representative test and monitor stream health
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream, then monitoring audio/video quality and Live Control Room health messages during the event. For a long loop, sample near the beginning and at later points so you can identify when the drift starts. This sampling schedule is practical guidance, not an official YouTube requirement.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In Live Control Room, review the stream health status and any specific messages or errors while the loop is running. Record when the mismatch becomes noticeable and whether the health status changes at that time. A healthy-looking status alone does not establish why a particular loop drifts, but health messages and timing observations can help locate whether the issue coincides with an encoder or delivery problem.
Check encoder inputs and baseline settings
Verify that the intended audio and video sources are connected to the encoder and that audio is not being routed through an unexpected input or processing path. If the source or local recording already drifts, investigate its playback and timing before treating an encoder setting as the cause.

YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS streams and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. These are baseline settings, not a proven cure for progressive sync drift; resetting keyframes alone should not be presented as a guaranteed fix. Compare your configuration with YouTube’s current encoder guidance before changing it.
Check upload capacity and distinguish drift from delay
YouTube recommends keeping the total stream bitrate below the available upload bandwidth, with about 20% headroom. Connection disruptions can break a stream. Check the upload capacity and stability available to the encoder while it is streaming, and compare any network interruptions with when the mismatch appears.

Separate audio/video drift—the relative timing of sound and picture—from delivery delay, when the entire live stream appears behind the event. YouTube defines stream latency as the delay between a camera capturing an event and that event being displayed to viewers. A delayed player is not, by itself, evidence that audio is gradually separating from video.
Change latency only for the problem it addresses
Latency settings affect how quickly viewers receive the stream and how much read-ahead buffer the player has. Lower latency can make interaction more responsive, but less buffering may increase buffering interruptions or make encoder and player issues more apparent. YouTube’s guidance does not say that changing latency corrects audio gradually drifting relative to video.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
If you consider changing latency, weigh audience interaction needs against buffering tolerance. YouTube describes normal latency as suited to non-interactive streams, while lower-latency settings trade buffer for responsiveness. Treat a latency change as a delivery tradeoff to test, not a sync repair.

- If drift is present in the local source or recording, focus on source playback, routing and audio/video timing.
- If it first appears between encoder output and YouTube, preserve the encoder configuration and health messages, and note network conditions around the onset before testing a relevant change.
- If the issue is limited to one viewer device or connection, investigate playback conditions there.
- If only the archive differs, investigate the recording or archive path.
The exact correction cannot be identified until the source, encoder, routing and location of the drift are known. Avoid buying a delay processor, interface, mixer or other hardware before establishing which part of the workflow is responsible.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping an uploaded-video loop live; it does not stream from a camera or repair audio/video drift already baked into a source file. The setup is: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. The computer at home can be off while the cloud loop runs. StreamNeo streams the uploaded material as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
The first day is free with no card required. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. If your source file is already out of sync, correct or replace it before uploading; moving the loop to the cloud does not itself diagnose or fix that source problem.
See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
Why upload-track advice may not explain a live loop
YouTube’s upload-sync troubleshooting guidance says mismatched audio- and video-track durations can desynchronize an uploaded video. That guidance concerns uploads; it does not establish that track-duration mismatch is the cause of a live stream that gradually drifts after several hours. Use it only when diagnosing an affected uploaded file, not as proof of a live-stream cause.
