If your gaming PC or hardware encoder sends video directly to YouTube Live, Lightsail costs nothing for that stream. Lightsail adds a bill only if you choose to run an intermediate relay or keep a separate copy in AWS. For an illustrative Mumbai relay, AWS lists its public-IPv4 Linux 2 GB plan at $12 per month, with a 1.5 TB effective transfer allowance and excess outbound transfer charged at $0.13 per GB. These are USD list prices, not an INR, tax-inclusive estimate.
Does a YouTube gaming stream need Lightsail?
No. YouTube’s encoder workflow has you configure a server URL and stream key in your encoder, which can send the feed straight to YouTube Live. Lightsail is optional: it is relevant if you deliberately put a VPS between your encoder and YouTube, or use AWS to store or serve an additional copy. YouTube does not require an AWS intermediary to create a live stream or its replay.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and available in the Live tab. That YouTube-hosted replay does not call for Lightsail storage. A separate AWS copy is a different workload and should be costed separately. See YouTube’s encoder workflow.
What a Mumbai Lightsail relay might cost
AWS’s current pricing page lists the public-IPv4 Linux 2 GB plan at $12 per month, with 2 vCPUs, 60 GB SSD storage, and a nominal 3 TB transfer allowance. AWS’s regional rules halve the instance transfer allowance in Mumbai, making the effective allowance 1.5 TB for this plan. AWS lists Mumbai excess outbound transfer at $0.13 per GB. These are USD list figures; they are not a tax-inclusive INR quote. AWS pricing and transfer terms can change, so confirm them for your chosen region and plan on the AWS Lightsail pricing page and in its data-transfer documentation.

How stream bitrate affects relay transfer
Bitrate determines how much video data moves, but a relay’s transfer accounting is not necessarily one copy of the stream. AWS counts both data transferred into and out of a Lightsail instance toward the allowance; AWS says excess outbound transfer to the internet or public IPs is chargeable. A relay receiving your feed and forwarding it may therefore record traffic in both directions. Check actual billing metrics rather than assuming only the outbound copy counts.

Example: continuous 12 Mbps
A continuous 12 Mbps feed works out to about 5.4 decimal GB per hour: 12 megabits per second multiplied by 3,600 seconds, divided by eight bits per byte. This is arithmetic, not a measured workload, and excludes protocol overhead and other traffic. For a relay, allow for roughly that amount entering and another amount leaving per hour before overhead. Whether your usage crosses the allowance depends on stream hours, route, other traffic, and AWS’s recorded transfer.
Do not treat the $12 plan’s 1.5 TB allowance or the $0.13-per-GB Mumbai excess rate as a complete bill estimate. The total depends on monthly streaming hours, measured inbound and outbound transfer, region, plan, retained storage or snapshots, taxes, and currency conversion. AWS bills instances hourly up to the plan’s monthly cap; charges continue while an instance is stopped. Deleting the instance stops its instance charges, but other retained billable resources may continue to incur charges. See AWS’s billing and account management guidance.

Choose YouTube settings before estimating data
YouTube’s recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, its current guidance recommends 12 Mbps at 1080p60 and 10 Mbps at 1080p30. Its table gives AV1/H.265 recommendations of 12 Mbps at 1080p60 and 10 Mbps at 1080p30 as well; use the codec-specific values for the resolution and frame rate you actually send. These settings affect network volume, not charges for YouTube’s own archived replay.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% spare upload capacity and says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Test the actual path from your encoder and monitor stream health; the nominal speed of an internet plan is not proof that a sustained upload will remain stable. A Mumbai instance may be geographically convenient for some Indian creators, but the available pricing information does not establish that Mumbai has lower latency or a better route for your particular connection. Choose a region based on measured route suitability, not an assumed performance win.
India-specific billing considerations
AWS’s cited Lightsail figures are in USD. An exact INR cost cannot be stated without a dated exchange rate, applicable taxes, account billing treatment, and your actual usage. For an Indian creator, estimate with the AWS region and plan you intend to use, then check the AWS bill and transfer metrics after the workload runs. The $12 Mumbai example is a list-price illustration, not a promised final monthly amount.
