YouTube Create is a free, ad-free mobile editor for making long-form videos and Shorts. To edit a video, start a project, import clips or photos from your phone, make your edits, preview the result, then export it or upload it to YouTube. You’ll need a Google account, a supported phone, and access to the app in your country or region.
Is YouTube Create available on your phone?
YouTube Help describes Create as an editor for long-form videos and Shorts that is “free of charge and without ads.” The app requires you to sign in with a Google account, and availability depends on your country or region. YouTube’s listed device requirements are an Android phone with at least 4 GB of RAM, or an iPhone XR or newer running iOS 17 or later. Check YouTube’s current Learn more about YouTube Create page before starting; device and regional availability can change.
How do I start a project and import footage?
- Open YouTube Create and sign in with your Google account.
- Tap the plus button to start a project.
- Select photos and videos from your phone’s gallery, or import media from another app.
- Choose multiple items if you want to combine several clips and images, then tap Import.
Your project opens in the editor. YouTube Help also documents renaming, duplicating, and deleting projects from Recent Projects. See YouTube Create’s project instructions for the current app workflow.
How do I edit a video in YouTube Create?
Arrange your clips and decide what needs emphasis
Review the imported media and select the clips or images you want to use. A useful order is to establish the subject first, then add supporting moments and any closing information your viewer needs. The official guidance covers the documented editing tools below; it does not establish every advanced timeline behavior, so avoid assuming controls that are not visible in your version of the app.

Add and style text
Add a text layer for a title, label, or brief explanation. You can use plain text or text effects, change the wording and how long it appears, style and animate it, and drag it into position. Delete a layer if it is no longer needed. Keep text concise and place it where it does not obscure important action.
Apply visual adjustments
YouTube Create provides filters with adjustable intensity, effects, and basic color controls including contrast, saturation, and tint. Make changes while previewing the clip so that the treatment supports the footage rather than distracting from it. YouTube documents these tools in its editing guidance.

Preview the project
Use Play to review the edit before exporting. Check that the sequence makes sense, text is readable for its full duration, and visual adjustments look consistent across the footage.
Can a template speed up editing?
Yes. YouTube Create includes templates organized by styles such as cooking, travel, and fashion. Browse the templates, choose one, select and import media, then pick the useful portion of each clip. From there, export the result or open it in the full editor for further changes. YouTube says projects are saved in the editor or after export. Template names and availability may vary; see YouTube’s template instructions for the documented workflow.

Should I use a template or edit manually?
- Choose a template when its style fits your video and you want a quick starting point for selecting clips.
- Edit manually when you need more control over text, filters, effects, and basic color adjustments.
- Check your music workflow before exporting if you use music from the Shorts Audio Library; the export and direct-upload rules differ.
YouTube’s help pages document Create’s features but do not establish comparative performance against other editing apps. The practical question is whether its mobile workflow and available tools suit this particular video.
Export a copy or upload to YouTube
Decide how you want the video to reach YouTube before choosing your final route. Music from the Shorts Audio Library has a specific limitation: YouTube Help says that music is automatically removed if you export a video longer than 15 seconds. If you upload directly to YouTube from Create, the help page says licensed music clips can be used for up to 60 seconds. These are product instructions that may change, so check the current export and music guidance for your project.

Save the video to your phone
- Open More in the project.
- Choose Export.
- Select a video quality and export the file to your device.
Exporting locally gives you a device copy. If you then upload it separately, review the finished file and its music before publishing.
Upload from YouTube Create
- Export the project and choose Upload to YouTube.
- Add the video’s title, description, thumbnail, privacy setting, audience selection, and other upload details.
- Review the details before publishing.
Are YouTube Create’s AI features available to everyone?
No. YouTube Help describes these as experimental features available only to a limited number of creators in selected countries. Its page lists Gemini Omni video generation in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United States. It lists Edit with AI in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Türkiye, and the United States. Those country lists reflect the help page accessed on October 3, 2026, not a permanent availability guarantee.

The same page describes Gemini Omni as generating vertical clips up to 10 seconds. Its AI image feature can generate four images and turn a selected image into an eight-second video. Edit with AI’s documented workflow accepts 1–25 items, and its output can be downloaded or uploaded. These optional tools may not appear in your app even if Create itself is available in your region. Check YouTube’s current AI features guidance for eligibility and availability.
Common problems and what to check
- Create is unavailable or will not install: confirm your country or region is supported and your phone meets YouTube’s listed requirements. Check the current YouTube Create availability page.
- You cannot find an AI option: AI features are experimental and limited by creator eligibility and country. Their absence does not necessarily mean the main editor is unavailable.
- Shorts Audio Library music disappears from the exported video: YouTube Help says it is automatically removed when exporting a video longer than 15 seconds. Consider direct upload if the licensed clip fits the stated allowance, and verify current music instructions.
- The result differs from a template preview: check which portion of each imported clip you selected and review the project in the full editor before export.
