Why some viewers say YouTube ads feel unbearable
That complaint is visible in public discussion: one Reddit post described the amount of ads as “unbearable and insufferable.” It captures an individual viewer’s experience, not a survey of YouTube users. The available sources do not establish how many ads a typical viewer currently sees or provide a comparable measure showing that the average ad load has risen.
YouTube’s advertising model is not going away. The company describes its free, ad-supported service as a core part of its business and says, “The YouTube with ads you know and love is not going anywhere and is a core part of our business.” That explains why ads remain part of the free experience; it does not make interruptions less frustrating for an individual viewer.

Use ad controls when you want to manage or report an ad
YouTube provides Ad Settings and tools to give feedback on ads or report ones that appear inappropriate or violate policy. These are useful when an ad is irrelevant, concerning, or potentially against policy. They are not a promise of fewer interruptions: changing preferences or sending feedback should not be mistaken for an ad-free setting.

Choose a membership based on where you want fewer ads
Premium Lite: fewer interruptions on most videos
Lite may suit viewers whose main aim is fewer interruptions while watching most videos. It is not fully ad-free: YouTube says ads can still appear on music content, Shorts, and while searching or browsing. Because availability varies by location, confirm that the plan is offered to you and review its current terms before subscribing.
Premium: broader ad removal plus other viewing benefits
YouTube says Premium lets members watch millions of videos without interruptions from ads before and during a video. The membership also includes benefits such as YouTube Music, downloads, and background play. The ad-removal promise has limits: creator-read sponsorships, branding, and promotions embedded in a video can remain, as can some ads or promotions on Primetime Channels or during live events.

Premium is also a way to keep supporting creators through a membership. YouTube says subscription revenue is distributed to creators according to how much members watch their content. That is separate from the free ad-supported model, which YouTube says will remain available.
