Start with the evidence in YouTube Live Control Room before changing the BSNL router: note the stream-health message and timestamp, then compare it with the encoder status and a sustained upload test. This helps separate an encoder fault, an unstable local or ISP connection, and viewer playback trouble. There is no single verified BSNL FTTH setting for this symptom; exact menus and values depend on the router or ONT model and firmware.
First identify what is disconnecting
“The stream is disconnecting” can describe different failures. The encoder may lose its connection to YouTube, YouTube may report an ingest or stream-health problem, or viewers may have playback trouble while the encoder continues sending video. These cases point to different causes.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Check stream health and read the specific status messages. Record the timestamps of warnings or interruptions. YouTube advises monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during an event; timestamps let you compare the event with encoder and router logs.
- Check the encoder at the same time. Note whether it reports a dropped connection, continues sending, or shows a local error. If the encoder appears healthy while viewers report problems, focus on the outbound connection and viewer-side reports rather than assuming the router stopped the stream.
- Compare who is affected. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes one viewer, viewers sharing an internet connection, and viewers on different connections. Reports across unrelated connections can point toward an encoder or stream issue; if the encoder looks and sounds healthy, investigate the outbound internet connection.
Keep a short incident log with the exact message, timestamp, encoder status, and whether viewers on separate connections were affected. It gives BSNL support or a router technician something concrete to compare against their logs.
Check sustained upload capacity and headroom
Use a test that measures upload performance, not just the download speed advertised on the plan. A 24/7 stream needs sustained outbound capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth margin; its guidance also says the primary stream, any backup stream, and that margin should fit within available upload bandwidth.

- Compare the encoder’s configured bitrate with measured upload capacity during the time the stream is usually unstable.
- Include any backup encoder bitrate in the total if you use failover.
- Account for other people and devices using the FTTH connection, including uploads, cloud backups, and video calls.
- If upload varies, use the lower sustained result rather than a brief peak when assessing headroom.
If the total stream bitrate plus the recommended margin does not fit the available upload, reduce the stream bitrate or reduce competing network use before changing router settings. A fast download result alone does not establish that the outbound connection has enough capacity.
Verify encoder bitrate and stream settings
Router changes cannot correct every stream problem. YouTube’s current encoder guidance specifies constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Choose bitrate for the stream’s resolution and the connection’s real upload capacity; there is no one bitrate suitable for every continuous stream.

- Rate control: Set the encoder to CBR rather than a variable bitrate mode.
- Keyframes: Set an interval of two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
- Bitrate: Check the configured video and audio rates against measured upload headroom, including a backup stream if present.
- Ingest status: Compare encoder warnings and reconnects with Live Control Room’s timestamped messages.
Change one setting at a time and observe whether the same failure recurs. This makes it easier to tell whether an encoder adjustment helped or whether the interruption simply stopped for another reason.
Isolate Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and the router
If the encoder uses Wi-Fi, test it on a stable wired Ethernet connection where practical. A wired comparison helps isolate wireless interference or signal instability; it does not prove the router is faulty, and Ethernet is not a guaranteed repair.

- Record the time of a disconnect while the encoder is on Wi-Fi.
- Connect the encoder to the router or ONT by Ethernet, keeping the encoder settings and stream conditions the same.
- Observe whether the encoder and Live Control Room report another interruption, and record its timestamp.
- Compare the results. A stable wired run after Wi-Fi interruptions makes the wireless link worth investigating; interruptions on both links leave other causes, including upload capacity, encoder configuration, router, or ISP path, in consideration.
YouTube’s failover testing instructions include unplugging the primary encoder’s Ethernet cable to verify that a backup encoder takes over. That is a controlled failover check, not evidence that unplugging or replacing a cable fixes ordinary disconnects.
Check RTMPS timeouts without weakening security
If the encoder reports a timeout or SSL-related error, verify that it is using the correct YouTube RTMPS URL and that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube mentions port 443 when troubleshooting an SSL certificate error. That narrow guidance does not support generic inbound port forwarding or disabling router security for every stream interruption.

Use the exact error text and timestamp to guide any further check. Avoid changing multiple firewall, NAT, DNS, or security options together: without a model-specific diagnosis, those changes can create new problems while obscuring the original one.

Only move to model-specific router settings after comparing stream health, encoder status, measured upload headroom, and wired versus Wi-Fi performance. The available official guidance does not establish universal BSNL FTTH values or menu paths for WAN keep-alive, NAT timeout, DNS, or Wi-Fi settings. Those depend on the exact router or ONT and firmware, so do not apply settings copied from a different model as if they were a BSNL-wide fix.

Before contacting BSNL or a technician, collect the router/ONT make and model, firmware version, network layout, whether the encoder is wired or wireless, and timestamps of the failures. If evidence points to an outbound ISP-path problem, YouTube advises contacting the ISP and sharing the observed times and symptoms.
