You don’t need any Pokémon game knowledge or a trainer role to make this Pikachu respond. The product most likely meant is Takara Tomy’s Pokémon life PIKACHU (item number 937562), a touch-responsive plush. “Control” here means prompting its built-in reactions through touch, hugs, and body position. It is not a remote-controlled figure and it does not play a game.

The figure most often confused with it is Jazwares’ Pokémon Train & Play Deluxe Pikachu, model PKW3330. The two toys use different input methods, as the table shows. The converted manual for the Train & Play model describes its sensor and microphone play, and none of those controls apply to Pokémon life PIKACHU.

How to get Pikachu to react
Pokémon Center Online describes three main kinds of interaction. The product copy advertises more than 40 reactions in total. That figure is the manufacturer and retailer’s own product claim, not an independently measured count.
#1 Best Overall
- PIKACHU PUPPETRONIC: Bring Pikachu Puppetronic to life with realistic movement, sound and expression from RealFX
- INTERACTIVE PLUSH: 16-inch interactive plush performs 120+ unique lifelike animations
- MOTION ACTIVATED: Hand-controlled puppeteering lets you interact, perform, and create your own Pokémon moments
- TOUCH SENSORS: Touch its head, nose, and tummy to activate even more unique effects
- DISPLAY CASE: Packed in a collectible showcase that doubles as a display stand
Petting the head, cheeks, or belly
Each of these three areas triggers its own reaction. Pet one spot at a time to hear the difference between them, since the listing says each area responds separately.
Hugging
A hug produces a special response that is separate from the touch reactions.
Laying it on its side
Placing the plush on its side makes it fall asleep. While it is asleep, petting can prompt sleep-talking or humming, so you can keep interacting even in sleep mode.
When it responds weakly
If a touch or hug seems to do nothing, the listing suggests three adjustments:
Rank #2
- POKÉMON PLUSH: Choose to cuddle Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon.
- SPECIAL MATERIAL: Snuggly 12-inch Pokémon plush is made with super soft material.
- AUTHENTIC DETAILS: Pikachu looks like it jumped out of the Pokémon Animated Series.
- TEAM BUILDING: Collect other 12-inch Pokémon plush and build your own unique team.
- OFFICIAL PRODUCT: Officially licensed Pokémon product from Jazwares.
- Keep your hand in contact a little longer on the spot you are petting.
- Tap repeatedly instead of touching once.
- Extend the hug for a few more seconds.
If there is no response for roughly 10 minutes, the plush enters sleep mode. Restart its power, as the listing directs, to play again.

Price and availability
Pokémon Center Online’s Japanese listing gives a release date of November 9, 2024 and a price of ¥8,800 including tax. When that page was checked on October 8, 2026, the product showed as out of stock. Both the price and the stock status are specific to that Japanese listing and that date. They do not establish what the toy costs or whether it is available in other countries, so check a retailer in your region for current terms.
What “control” does not involve
The official product information describes no remote control and no link to a Pokémon game. You are not directing Pikachu’s movement or choosing its actions. You are touching, hugging, and positioning the plush, and it answers with its own built-in responses.
