As of October 2026, no sixth season of the original Yellowstone has been confirmed. In a November 2024 interview, director Christina Voros said the production felt like it was protecting a conclusion for season 5B, and that she did not know what the future held. Since then, Paramount+ has officially listed Dutton Ranch, a separate series that follows Beth and Rip, and renewed it for a second season in June 2026. That is a character-led continuation, not Yellowstone season 6.
What Voros said in November 2024
Voros’s comments come from a Hollywood Reporter interview dated November 5, 2024, which Yahoo Entertainment syndicated under the headline “‘Yellowstone’ Director Reveals How They’ll Keep New Season Spoilers From Leaking.” The conversation took place before season 5B premiered on November 10, 2024. Its focus was secrecy, but the answers also touched on the show’s future.
On whether this was the end
Voros described the tight security around the season as a sign of what the team believed it was doing. In her words: “I think the degree of secrecy that went into it, the vibe was definitely that we were protecting a conclusion.” Asked what came next, she gave a plain answer: “As far as what the future holds? I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.”
That is the most direct statement the interview offers, and it is an admission of uncertainty rather than a renewal or a finale announcement. Season 5B had been presented as the end of the flagship series, so Voros was speaking about a conclusion that was already framed that way, not one she had newly confirmed.

On spinoffs and character-led stories
The line that gave this story its headline came from a broader creative point. Voros said: “I think when you build characters that are rich, multi-faceted and intriguing with a life force, if you’ve done your job correctly, each of those characters could sustain their own narratives.”
Read it as a view about storytelling, not a production schedule. It says the Dutton characters were written with enough depth to support stories of their own. It does not say that every Dutton would get a series, and it does not name any show. Treating it as a preview of the later Beth-and-Rip series goes beyond what the interview says.

Why the secrecy was so tight
Voros tied the security measures to several pressures at once: the show’s high anticipation, Kevin Costner’s departure, the announced concluding status of season 5B, and audience expectations. She described redacted scripts and restricted access to scenes and production information. These measures explain why little was known about the season’s content before release, but they do not reveal plans for any future season.
Season 6 reports versus confirmed news
The season 6 talk predates the Dutton Ranch announcement. In the same 2024 coverage, the article noted reports of a possible sixth season involving Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser. Dutton Ranch: what Paramount+ has officially said
Paramount+’s official page for Dutton Ranch describes a 2026 series that follows Beth and Rip as they try to build a new life in Texas. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are listed in the cast. Because the show centers on those two characters rather than on the Yellowstone ranch storyline, it is best understood as a continuation of their arc in a new series.
In June 2026, Paramount+ announced that it had renewed the show for season 2. That announcement is the source of the viewing figure readers are most likely to see: Paramount+ reported that Dutton Ranch drew 12.9 million viewers globally in the seven days after its debut. This is the platform’s own figure for the Beth-and-Rip series. It is not an audience number for Yellowstone, and it does not establish any sixth season.
