Season 3 plot setup
The official season premise is intentionally broad. Season 3 begins in the summer that follows the brutal winter that nearly wiped out the team. The survivors seem to have a reprieve, but it is fragile: mistrust in leadership and internal tension threaten their chances of rescue. In the present-day timeline, secrets from the past surface as the survivors try to keep their lives from unraveling.

The two timelines
The show follows two groups. In the past, teenage soccer players are stranded after a plane crash in a remote northern wilderness. In the present, the adult survivors are living with what happened roughly 25 years later. Paramount describes the series as a survival epic, a psychological horror story and a coming-of-age drama, and that blend explains why the two timelines carry such different tones.

Renewal and Season 4
Paramount renewed the series for a fourth season in May 2025, in a release dated May 20, 2025. That announcement called Season 3 the show’s most-watched season and said its social engagement set a record. Those are promotional claims from the publisher. The release gives no audience figures or measurement method, so they should not be treated as independently verified numbers.
Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in the renewal announcement: “Yellowjackets has become a cultural juggernaut; with season three shattering all previous records, we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+.”

As of the Paramount+ guide updated October 2, 2026, Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on Friday, November 20, 2026, exclusively on Paramount+ for Premium subscribers. Paramount has identified it as the final season. A Paramount Global Content listing shows the same premiere date but gives a series total of three seasons and 29 episodes, which does not match a four-season run, so do not rely on that listing for episode counts. Dates and package access can change, so check Paramount+ before planning around the premiere.
