What happens to Ben in the wilderness?
After the girls’ trial and his Achilles injury, Coach Ben is held prisoner. Akilah’s vision has spared him from immediate execution: the group believes he could be their “bridge” to salvation and a way home. But confinement and a hunger strike leave him deteriorating.

Ben repeatedly asks Natalie to kill him. She initially refuses because she thinks keeping him alive may matter to the group’s chances of rescue. When the others force-feed him, his suffering becomes harder to ignore—and Natalie’s conflict more urgent.
Eventually, Natalie kills Ben at his request. Steven Krueger, who plays Ben, said in a TV Insider interview that Ben’s response was, “Absolutely. That’s what he was essentially begging for.” That is Krueger’s interpretation of Ben’s response, not a line of dialogue from the episode.

How does the group respond to Natalie?
Natalie’s decision does not restore her position. The group replaces her with Shauna, who orders them to prepare Ben’s body for a feast. Before they can carry that out, outsiders come upon the camp and see the group.
The episode makes Ben’s death a turning point in the group’s leadership as well as a personal decision for Natalie. Krueger described the episode as “an inflection point in the entire arc of the series” and called the act “the first time they’ve really crossed the line” into what could be categorized as murder. Those are the actor’s views, not an official statement about the series’ meaning.
What happens in the present-day timeline?
Shauna learns that Lottie is dead and receives the tape Callie had kept. The recording, along with a series of unsettling events, strengthens Shauna’s suspicion that someone is targeting the group. Misty continues investigating Lottie’s death.
The tape is a developing clue, not a complete explanation of the wilderness events at this point in the story. The present-day mystery remains separate from the immediate events around Ben’s death.
What the episode establishes—and what remains interpretation
- On-screen events: Ben is imprisoned, refuses food, asks Natalie to kill him, and is killed by her. Shauna takes leadership, and outsiders interrupt the group’s preparations.
- Actor’s interpretation: Krueger said he played Ben as having started the cabin fire, but not with the intent to kill the girls. The interview records his approach to the role; it does not by itself settle the show’s ambiguity about Ben’s actions.
- Official episode details: Paramount+ lists the episode as “Thanksgiving (Canada),” Season 3, Episode 6, with a March 14, 2025 date. See the official episode guide.
