Episode details
- Series and episode: Yellowjackets, Season 3, Episode 4, “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis”
- Air date: February 28, 2025, according to the Paramount+ episode listing
- Runtime and rating: 58 minutes, TV-MA
- Season context: Season 3 premiered February 14, 2025, and runs 10 episodes
The official Paramount+ listing describes the episode in one line: “The Yellowjackets attempt to spin a hundred suspicions into proof.” That sentence is a fair summary of the whole hour. The group takes rumor and resentment and tries to turn them into a verdict.
The wilderness timeline: the trial of Coach Ben
The series alternates between the 1996 wilderness crash and the survivors roughly 25 years later. The trial belongs to the wilderness timeline, and it is the episode’s main engine.

Setup: a split over what to do with Ben
After the group brings Coach Ben back to camp, they disagree about what to do with him. Shauna is convinced he set the cabin fire and wants him punished. Natalie argues that he should be allowed to answer for himself. Taissa takes on the role of prosecutor, and Misty reluctantly agrees to defend him. The group sets the rule for conviction at a two-thirds majority.
Misty’s defense
Misty’s case is built on doubt rather than on proof of innocence. She challenges the assumption that Ben is guilty, points to his decision not to harm Mari, and argues that several people in camp had a motive or an opportunity to start the fire. Ben says he did not set it. In his testimony he describes looking after the team, and he admits that he left because he feared becoming their next meal. That admission makes him more sympathetic without making him innocent in the group’s eyes.
The Natalie revelation
The prosecution then exposes a serious breach of trust: Natalie knew Ben was alive and had been hiding, and she did not tell the others. The news inflames the group and damages Natalie’s standing as the person who had argued for fairness. The trial stops being only about the fire and becomes a question of who in camp can be trusted.

The vote and the verdict
The vote stalls. Shauna pressures the holdouts until the two-thirds threshold is reached, and Natalie announces that Ben is guilty. The official Paramount+ season explainer, written by Joan Kubicek and dated April 11, 2025, confirms that Ben is convicted even though he denies the accusation, and that viewers do not see him set the fire.
What the verdict does and does not prove: the group convicts Ben under social pressure, and the episode shows how fear and leadership conflict can turn suspicion into a sentence. It does not settle who started the fire. Misty’s defense is a real counterweight, and the ending leaves that question open.
The present-day timeline
The present-day storylines run alongside the trial, and several of them mirror its themes of accusation, guilt and selective disclosure.

Shauna’s brakes and Jeff’s guilt
Shauna suspects that her brake failure was sabotage. A mechanic attributes it to a faulty brake booster, which gives the episode a plausible non-criminal explanation. Jeff ties the incident to his own guilt over past actions, so the scare becomes less about the car and more about what the couple have buried.
The nursing home and Misty’s impulse
Later, Shauna and Jeff volunteer at Misty’s nursing home, and the old tension between Misty and Shauna returns. In one of the episode’s darkest moments, Misty briefly imagines stabbing Shauna. She recognizes the thought as unhealthy and leaves.

Taissa and Van test their belief that the wilderness selects its victims. They leave a Queen of Hearts card where passersby may find it. A man picks it up, and they follow him. Taissa then suggests that they kill him as a sacrifice to cure Van’s cancer. Van refuses. Taissa seems to accept the refusal, but Van’s trembling hand leaves the decision emotionally unresolved.

The supernatural premise is the characters’ belief, not an established cause. The episode presents it through their trauma and their need for a explanation, and it does not confirm that the wilderness chooses anyone.
Shauna in the freezer
Shauna is accidentally trapped in the nursing-home freezer. Inside, she sees Jackie, whose words turn the scene into an accusation about Shauna’s guilt and self-deception. Randy hears her and lets her out. The episode does not establish who shut the freezer door.
Misty learns about Lottie
Misty learns through the Citizen Detectives forum that Lottie is dead. The episode ends with the discovery of Lottie’s body at the foot of stairs. The official season explainer confirms that Misty learns of Lottie’s death in Episode 4 and leaves the wider question of responsibility for later episodes.

How the two timelines echo each other
The trial and the present-day storylines use the same machinery: an accusation, a hunch treated as evidence, and someone holding back the truth. The table below sets the parallels side by side.
| Element | Wilderness trial | Present-day storylines |
|---|---|---|
| The accusation | Ben is accused of setting the cabin fire | Shauna suspects sabotage in her brakes, and Shauna is accused of guilt by Jackie in the freezer |
| The evidence | Motive and opportunity are argued, but the fire’s origin is never proven | A mechanic gives a faulty brake booster explanation; the freezer door’s closing is never explained |
| Who decides | A two-thirds vote, pushed by Shauna | Taissa and Van decide what the card means and whether to act on it |
| Hidden knowledge | Natalie knew Ben was alive and kept quiet | Jeff’s guilt over past actions and the truth about Lottie’s death remain partly buried |
| Outcome | Ben is convicted and denies the charge | Van refuses to kill a stranger; Lottie is found dead |
In both timelines the group, or a single character, is more willing to act on a story than on a fact. The trial takes that instinct to its public extreme. The present-day thread shows it privately, in a sabotage theory, a sacrifice idea and a grudge that turns into a fantasy of violence.
What the episode leaves unresolved
- Who started the cabin fire. Ben is convicted, but the episode shows him denying it, and it does not show the fire starting.
- Whether the brake failure was sabotage. A mechanic points to a faulty brake booster.
- Who shut the nursing-home freezer door. Randy opens it, and the episode leaves the closing unexplained.
- Whether the wilderness selects victims. The episode presents this as Taissa and Van’s belief.
- How Lottie died. The episode shows her body at the foot of stairs and stops there.
