What happens in the wilderness after the cabin fire?

The episode opens with what looks like a hunt: Mari runs through the woods as Shauna and the others chase her. Shauna tackles her and reaches for what Mari is carrying. The apparent attack is a tag-like team game. Mari is the decoy; Misty carries the object toward the goal. The game offers a glimpse of the group’s new routine, while the sudden shift from menace to play keeps the threat of real violence close.

By the Summer Solstice, the survivors have made it through winter and built new shelters. Van says they kept the cabin fire burning for twelve days until spring. Natalie, who led them through that period, is now their leader. The group hunts, keeps small animals, and marks the occasion with games and ceremonies. Shauna stays apart from the celebration, privately writing about the rituals and the ways the group justifies what it has done.

Shauna and Mari’s feud turns physical

The day’s game makes the camp’s hierarchy tangible: the losing side serves the winners. Shauna’s resentment of Mari also surfaces at the solstice meal. Shauna spits into Mari’s bowl; Mari throws the food down, and Shauna attacks her. Natalie breaks up the fight and confines both of them to their huts for a week. Mari leaves in anger, setting up the episode’s final wilderness cliffhanger.

Ben is alive, and Mari is in his trap

Coach Ben has survived, despite Natalie telling the others that he likely froze or starved. He is hiding in the woods, setting traps and using a concealed cache of supplies, including food and survival equipment. The others do not know he is alive.

At the end, Ben checks a pit trap and finds Mari at the bottom. She recognizes him and screams. The episode cuts off before he decides whether to help her.

Grief and strange sounds remain unexplained

Travis and Lottie talk about Javi and the grief they have set aside. Lottie makes Travis a mushroom drink; while under its effects, he says he can hear the trees screaming, but Lottie says she cannot. Later, during a ceremony for Javi, Jackie, and Shauna’s stillborn child, the group hears strange screeches. The episode does not establish whether anything supernatural caused them.

How are the adults coping six weeks after Natalie’s death?

The present-day story shows the survivors’ grief in different forms: family strain, guilt, old resentments, and unresolved ties. The episode’s adult characters are still connected to the wilderness, even decades after their rescue.

Callie and Shauna clash

Callie hears classmates gossiping about the survivors and retaliates by throwing animal entrails at them, earning a suspension. Jeff worries about what Callie has witnessed and how she is coping. Shauna responds with detachment and inappropriate humor: she smokes Callie’s marijuana and laughs at a video of the incident.

Misty confronts her guilt

Misty sorts through Natalie’s storage-unit belongings and takes Natalie’s jacket to a bar, hoping to borrow some of her friend’s confidence. She sees an image of teen Natalie in a mirror and picks a fight after misreading a stranger’s compliment. Walter later finds her drunk and alone. When Misty learns that the other survivors did not answer the bartender’s attempts to reach them, she breaks down and admits she feels guilty about Natalie’s death.

Taissa and Van reconnect, but trouble follows

Taissa and Van are involved again, though their shared history is painful. Taissa’s ex-wife, Simone, is keeping their son Sammy away from her. Van resents how Taissa ended their relationship after the rescue, then went on to build a public life with another woman. The two have dinner, leave without paying, and kiss in an alley.

Taissa sees the Man With No Eyes. Later, she learns that the waiter who pursued them died after suffering a heart attack. She does not tell Van what happened.

What does Callie find at the end?

Callie finds an envelope addressed to Shauna and marked with the wilderness symbol. It contains a recording tape. She hides it when Jeff arrives. The episode does not reveal who sent it or what is recorded on it.
