Spoiler warning: This guide covers major character identities, casting, relationships, survival status, deaths, aliases, and plot developments through the end of Season 3. Read it only if you are caught up.
Yellowjackets follows a high-school girls’ soccer team after its plane crashes in the remote northern wilderness in 1996, then cuts between that survival story and the lives of the survivors roughly 25 years later. It is part survival epic, part psychological horror, and part coming-of-age drama. The most useful way to understand the cast is by tracking each character across those timelines—not by assuming that every wilderness character has an adult counterpart.
At a glance: who plays whom?
The central casting pattern is straightforward: six major characters have distinct performers in the 1996 wilderness story and the adult timeline. Other characters are deliberately one-timeline figures, while a few—especially Travis and Melissa—need more careful explanation.

The core Yellowjackets with teen and adult performers
Shauna Sadecki — Sophie Nélisse and Melanie Lynskey
Sophie Nélisse plays teenage Shauna, while Melanie Lynskey plays her adult counterpart. Before the crash, Shauna is Jackie’s closest friend—but she is secretly having sex with Jackie’s boyfriend, Jeff. That betrayal becomes the emotional fault line between Shauna and Jackie in the wilderness.
Jackie is eventually expelled from the cabin and freezes to death outside. Adult Shauna, meanwhile, is married to Jeff and raising their daughter, Callie. Her present-day life repeatedly collides with the violence, secrecy, and compromises she carried out of the wilderness. The apparent normality of marriage and motherhood never fully separates her from the person she became after the crash.

By Season 3, Shauna is among the most volatile of the adult survivors. Her conflict with Melissa—who has been living under the name Kelly—turns the old group history into a direct present-day danger. Hilary Swank plays adult Melissa; she is not a second adult performer for Shauna.
Natalie Scatorccio — Sophie Thatcher and Juliette Lewis
Sophie Thatcher plays teen Natalie and Juliette Lewis plays adult Natalie. In the wilderness, Natalie is one of the team’s best hunters and is especially skilled with a rifle. She is also one of the characters most resistant to the group’s supernatural explanations, preferring practical evidence and self-reliance.
After Lottie’s decline at the end of Season 2, teen Natalie becomes the group’s new wilderness leader. That position gives her authority but also places her at the center of the group’s increasingly ritualized decisions.
Adult Natalie struggles with addiction and remains consumed by guilt over Travis’s death. She dies at the end of Season 2 when Misty accidentally injects her while trying to stop her from intervening in Lottie’s crisis. Juliette Lewis therefore should not be described as portraying an ordinary active present-day survivor after that point. Natalie remains important in Season 3 through the younger timeline and other nontraditional narrative appearances. The Season 3 finale gives teen Natalie a major new role when she uses a satellite phone to make contact with civilization.
Misty Quigley — Samantha Hanratty and Christina Ricci
Samantha Hanratty plays teen Misty, and Christina Ricci plays adult Misty. Before the crash, Misty is the team’s equipment manager and an isolated student who is frequently bullied. Her first-aid knowledge makes her indispensable after the plane goes down, but she also deliberately destroys the plane’s transponder, ensuring that the group will not be found quickly.
Adult Misty works at a nursing home and is eager to reconnect with the other survivors when the blackmail plot brings Shauna, Taissa, and Natalie back into one another’s orbit. She later teams up with Walter, an amateur Citizen Detective played by Elijah Wood. Misty’s loyalty and resourcefulness are real, but so are her willingness to manipulate people and cross moral lines. That mixture makes her one of the clearest examples of continuity between the two timelines.

Taissa Turner — Jasmin Savoy Brown and Tawny Cypress
Jasmin Savoy Brown plays teen Taissa, while Tawny Cypress plays adult Taissa. In the wilderness, Taissa becomes a natural leader and is one of the most determined advocates for practical survival. She also experiences terrifying blackouts and behavior she cannot fully control.
Taissa’s secret relationship with Van grows into one of the defining emotional relationships of the teen timeline. As an adult, Taissa enters politics and runs for the Senate, making a public-life choice that conflicts with the survivors’ earlier preference for remaining invisible. Her political ambitions and family life are threatened by her recurring episodes, her connection to the wilderness, and Van’s return. Taissa’s story leaves open the show’s central question: are the wilderness experiences supernatural, psychological, or some combination of the two?
Vanessa Palmer — Liv Hewson and Lauren Ambrose
Liv Hewson plays teen Van, the team’s goalkeeper. After surviving a wolf attack and suffering severe facial injuries, Van and Taissa acknowledge that their relationship is romantic. Van’s resilience makes her one of the wilderness group’s most determined survivors, even as repeated injuries force her to confront how much survival costs.
Lauren Ambrose plays adult Van, who runs a retro video store after returning to civilization. Her reunion with Taissa in Season 2 reopens their romance and raises the possibility that the wilderness changed them in ways ordinary adult life could not contain.
Season 3 substantially changes Van’s status. Because the available research does not establish a safe, simplified description of her exact endpoint, avoid referring to her merely as an uncomplicated active adult survivor. Any statement about her fate should be tied to the relevant Season 3 episode and the publication’s spoiler boundary.
Lottie Matthews — Courtney Eaton and Simone Kessell
Courtney Eaton plays teen Lottie, and Simone Kessell plays adult Lottie. Before the crash, Lottie is medicated because of frightening visions. When her medication runs out in the wilderness, the visions return, and several apparent predictions come true.

Adult Lottie runs Camp Green Pine, a wellness retreat where she tries to manage her trauma and the belief system that formed in the wilderness. Her storyline brings the show’s mythology into the present and keeps the question of the wilderness’s true nature unresolved.
Important wilderness-era characters
Jackie — Ella Purnell
Ella Purnell plays Jackie, the popular team captain and Shauna’s best friend before the crash. Jackie’s social authority at school does not translate into wilderness leadership because she contributes less to the practical work of keeping the group alive. Her conflict with Shauna worsens after the affair with Jeff is exposed.

Jackie is expelled from the cabin and freezes to death outside in the Season 1 finale. She has no adult actor counterpart because she dies before rescue. Later appearances by Purnell should be understood as Jackie in memory, hallucination, or another nonstandard narrative form rather than as an adult survivor living in the present day.
Travis Martinez — Kevin Alves and Andrés Soto
Kevin Alves plays teen Travis. Andrés Soto briefly plays adult Travis in the later timeline. Travis is the older brother of Javi, and after the crash he becomes one of the group’s most capable hunters alongside Natalie. Their access to a rifle makes them central to the group’s food supply and its power structure.
Travis searches desperately for Javi after Javi disappears during the Season 1 Doomcoming events. Adult Travis’s death becomes a major source of Natalie’s guilt and investigation. Since the adult role is brief rather than a sustained teen-to-adult pairing like Shauna’s or Misty’s, listings should identify Travis’s actor by timeline.
Coach Ben Scott — Steven Krueger
Steven Krueger plays Coach Ben, the assistant soccer coach and one of the few adult authority figures left in the wilderness. He survives the crash but loses part of a leg after Misty amputates it.
As the team grows more violent, Ben retreats into fantasies about a safer life with his boyfriend. He refuses to participate in the cannibalistic ritual surrounding Jackie’s body, placing him increasingly at odds with the group. The available cast research does not establish a definitive Season 3 endpoint or an adult counterpart, so claims about Ben’s later fate should be sourced to a specific episode.
Javi Martinez — Luciano Leroux
Luciano Leroux plays Javi, Travis’s younger brother and the youngest of the central crash survivors. Javi runs away during the chaos of Doomcoming and remains missing for much of Season 2. His return changes the group’s survival calculations and eventually places him at the center of one of the wilderness story’s most consequential sacrifices.
Crystal — Nuha Jes Izman
Nuha Jes Izman plays Crystal, who bonds with Misty over Broadway songs during Season 2. Crystal is important because she briefly gives Misty a peer relationship that is not based solely on usefulness or fear. She has no adult counterpart in the researched cast mapping.
Gen — Mya Lowe
Mya Lowe plays Gen, one of the Yellowjackets in the wilderness. Gen becomes more prominent as the survivors split into factions and violence becomes increasingly ritualized. No adult counterpart is identified.

Mari — Alexa Barajas
Alexa Barajas plays Mari. She is closely associated with Akilah and becomes one of the first Yellowjackets to accept Lottie’s visions as meaningful. Mari is a wilderness-timeline character in the available cast guide, with no adult counterpart listed.
Akilah — Nia Sondaya
Nia Sondaya plays Akilah, a Yellowjacket with a notable connection to animals. Season 3 gives Akilah a more consequential role in the wilderness story. February 2026 reporting said that Sondaya had been elevated to series regular for Season 4, making Akilah one of the clearest examples of a formerly supporting wilderness character becoming more important in the final season.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Melissa and Kelly — Jenna Burgess and Hilary Swank
Jenna Burgess plays teen Melissa, recognizable by her baseball cap. Hilary Swank plays the adult version, who is living under the name Kelly. The alias is part of the Season 3 reveal, so Kelly should not be presented as an unrelated new character.
Adult Melissa appears late in Season 3 after Shauna uses an incriminating tape from the wilderness period to track her down. Her confrontation with Shauna shows how the survivors’ shared past can become a present-day threat even when one of them has tried to construct a different identity.
Hannah — Ashley Sutton
Ashley Sutton plays Hannah, a scientific researcher encountered in the 1990s wilderness storyline. Hannah is not one of the original Yellowjackets. Her arrival with other researchers expands the outside-world context around the crash survivors and becomes part of Season 3’s endgame.
Kodiak — Joel McHale
Joel McHale plays Kodiak, a macho outdoorsman who guides Hannah and fellow researcher Edwin into the Canadian wilderness. Kodiak is a Season 3 addition and belongs to the crash-era storyline rather than the adult-survivor cast.

Present-day and supporting characters
Jeff Sadecki — Jack DePew and Warren Kole
Jack DePew plays teen Jeff, who is Jackie’s boyfriend while secretly having sex with Shauna. Warren Kole plays adult Jeff, Shauna’s husband and Callie’s father. Jeff works as a furniture salesman and knows more about Shauna’s wilderness history than he initially admits.
Callie Sadecki — Sarah Desjardins
Sarah Desjardins plays Callie, Shauna and Jeff’s teenage daughter. Callie initially reacts with alarm to her mother’s criminal behavior, but she increasingly recognizes uncomfortable similarities between herself and Shauna. Callie exists in the present-day timeline and does not have a teen counterpart in the 1996 story.

Yellowjackets Season 4: what is confirmed?
Paramount+ with Showtime officially renewed Yellowjackets for Season 4 on May 20, 2025. The renewal announcement followed reports that Season 3 had become the show’s most-watched season and that its finale was, at that point, the series’ most-streamed episode.
Current reporting describes Season 4 as the fourth and final season. A March 2026 update said production had entered its final-season phase, but no confirmed premiere day or month had been announced. The exact episode count should also be treated as unresolved until Paramount confirms it.

Hilary Swank’s return was described as less certain in the available reporting. New additions reported in February 2026 include Molly Ringwald as Vicky, Van’s mother, and June Squibb in an undisclosed role.
The Season 3 finale establishes the next major transition: teen Natalie uses a satellite phone to make contact with civilization. That does not necessarily mean the rescue happens immediately when Season 4 begins. The creators have indicated that rescue and the group’s adjustment to life after the wilderness may not be compressed into the opening episode.
How to use this cast guide without mixing up the timelines
- Use 1996 wilderness timeline or teen timeline for the crash-era story, while remembering that the series also includes pre-crash scenes and other temporal fragments.
- Use present-day timeline or adult timeline for events roughly 25 years after the crash.
- Do not call Jackie, Javi, Crystal, or other wilderness-only characters adult survivors.
- Do not describe Juliette Lewis’s Natalie as an active present-day survivor after the Season 2 finale.
- Identify Hilary Swank’s character as adult Melissa or Melissa living as Kelly on first reference.
- Treat Season 4’s premiere timing, episode count, and uncertain casting details as unresolved until an official update confirms them.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The key to the Yellowjackets cast is separating direct teen-to-adult recastings from characters who exist only in the wilderness or present-day timeline. Shauna, Misty, Taissa, Van, Lottie, Natalie, Jeff, and Melissa connect the eras most directly—but death, aliases, altered status, and nontraditional appearances mean that a simple cast list can be misleading after Season 3.
