As of October 2026, there is no confirmed release date, official plot, or verified production update for xXx 4. The project was announced in April 2018, with Vin Diesel expected to return as Xander Cage and D.J. Caruso expected to direct. Since then the public record has been thin. A 2023 report described a rights lawsuit as an obstacle, and a production database now lists the film as completed, a label that conflicts with its own 2018 dates and has no studio announcement behind it.
Is xXx 4 happening?
Nothing published so far confirms that xXx 4 is in active production, scheduled for release, or cast beyond the 2018 expectations. Readers searching for a current answer should treat the project as announced but unconfirmed. Below is each dated source, what it actually says, and where it stops.

The 2018 announcement
The only official project announcement on record comes from Revolution Studios, dated April 17, 2018. It said that The H Collective, Vin Diesel, and One Race Films had acquired the xXx franchise rights, while Revolution retained rights to the first three films. The release named the following:
- Director: D.J. Caruso, who was said to return to direct.
- Lead: Diesel, reprising Xander Cage.
- Producers: Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Diesel, and Samantha Vincent.
- Planned start: production slated for December 2018.
The studio’s wording on Caruso reads: “D.J. Caruso (xXx: Return of Xander Cage, I Am Number Four, Disturbia) will return to direct xXx 4 with Diesel reprising his role as ‘Xander Cage.’” That is an announcement of intent made in 2018. It is not a current attachment confirmation, and it does not show that filming began on the planned schedule.

#1 Best Overall
The same release described the franchise’s first three films as having collectively grossed “nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box-office.” That is a rounded, dated, franchise-level claim from 2018. It is not a current total, and it does not describe the third film alone.
The 2023 lawsuit report
TV Insider published a sequel-status piece on August 22, 2023. It reported that a suit brought by Weying Galaxy Entertainment over production rights was an obstacle to the film. The same article noted that a social media post by Diesel did not confirm that production had resumed. Because the report is from 2023, it cannot tell you whether the suit has since been resolved, dropped, or decided. No later court or trade record was located in the sources checked for this update.
The 2026 production database entry
A Film & Television Industry Alliance production listing, last updated April 28, 2026, labels “XXX4” as completed. The same entry is internally inconsistent with that status:
Rank #2
- XXX: XANDER CAGE [4K UHD]
- It gives a November 2018 shoot date.
- It says the project had been scheduled to begin shooting in Los Angeles in December 2018, the same plan the 2018 announcement described.
Taken together, these details suggest the entry reflects the old production plan rather than a documented shoot. No studio, distributor, or trade announcement of a finished film accompanies it. Treat the “Completed” label as an uncorroborated database field, not as proof that xXx 4 has been filmed or finished.
Story details: what is and is not established
No official xXx 4 synopsis has been published. The closest material is older. In 2017, Caruso discussed a concept built around “someone to watch the watchers,” with world leaders reacting to those watchers. Those comments were made before a fourth-film script or production was confirmed, so they should be read as early creative talk rather than a plot.
Anything presented as an xXx 4 storyline beyond that is speculation unless it comes from a future official release.

Cast and creative team
Only three names carry an official 2018 connection to the project: Vin Diesel as Xander Cage, D.J. Caruso as director, and Diesel as one of the producers. No current cast list has been announced. No on-record statement by Diesel confirming current production, a release window, or story details was found in the sources checked. Comments Diesel has made about other films should not be read as updates on xXx 4.

Revolution Studios calls xXx: Return of Xander Cage the third chapter in the franchise. Its official synopsis says Xander Cage, played by Vin Diesel, returns from self-imposed exile and collides with Xiang (Donnie Yen) and his team in a race to recover Pandora’s Box, amid a conspiracy at the highest levels of world government. The studio page names D.J. Caruso as director and lists Vin Diesel, Samuel L. Jackson, Toni Collette, Nina Dobrev, Donnie Yen, Ruby Rose, and Deepika Padukone among the cast.
For viewers who want to catch up before any sequel, Revolution Studios’ pressroom records a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray home-video release. That listing is historical. Current retail availability and stock were not checked for this article. A 2023 report also mentioned a Paramount+ streaming presence, but that mention is from 2023 and is not evidence of current streaming availability.

What would confirm a real xXx 4 update
Use these checks before accepting a headline about xXx 4:
- A dated announcement from Revolution Studios or another named rights holder, not an aggregator or database.
- An official release date from a distributor.
- A cast announcement that names Vin Diesel as Xander Cage in a current, dated statement.
- Credible trade reporting of a production start, with a shoot location and date.
- A public resolution of the production-rights dispute reported in 2023, if it is still relevant.
Until at least one of these appears, the most accurate framing is that xXx 4 was announced in 2018 and has not been confirmed since.
