XSplit Broadcaster is the better-documented choice for streaming a sequence of local video files to YouTube: it has a dedicated Video Playlist source with continuous playback controls. Streamlabs Desktop’s official quick-start explains adding sources and going live, but does not establish an equivalent multi-file playlist workflow. That is not proof Streamlabs lacks one—check the source options in your installed version and test before relying on unattended playback.
What “YouTube playlist stream” means here
This comparison is about using encoder software to send a sequence of video files stored on your computer to a YouTube live event. It is not a guide to playing a YouTube playlist URL inside either app or rebroadcasting other people’s hosted videos. XSplit’s documented workflow uses local media files; the sources here do not establish a general method for relaying hosted YouTube playlists.
Both apps are software encoders in YouTube’s encoder workflow: configure the encoder with YouTube’s live-stream details, send the stream, check the preview in Live Control Room, and then start the event. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
At a glance
| What matters | XSplit Broadcaster | Streamlabs Desktop |
|---|---|---|
| Documented multi-file playlist | Yes. XSplit documents a Video Playlist source for multiple videos with continuous playback and other options. See Sources Menu — Introduction. | Not established by the reviewed official quick-start. It covers adding sources and going live on YouTube, but does not provide a multi-file playlist procedure. See Streamlabs’ quick-start guide. |
| Playlist setup documented here | Add Source > Scene Widgets > Video Playlist, add local files, and save. See Creating a Video Playlist. | No equivalent steps are established by the cited guide. Check the source types shown by your installed version. |
| Playback controls | XSplit’s source documentation describes continuous playback and playlist controls; confirm the order and end-of-file behavior you need in your version. | Not stated in the reviewed guide. |
| Other comparison details | Specific behavior for transitions, audio routing, recovery, unattended operation, operating system, and current version is not established here; verify it in the app. | Specific behavior for playlist advancement, transitions, audio routing, recovery, unattended operation, operating system, and current version is not established here; verify it in the app. |
Which app should you choose?
Choose XSplit when the playlist itself is the deciding requirement
XSplit has a documented native Video Playlist source for adding multiple local files. Its support material describes continuous playback, making it the stronger documented fit when you want a sequence to advance inside a scene without manually replacing each file. Documentation establishes the feature, not that every transition or failure case will suit your particular run; test the complete playlist before a public stream.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Consider Streamlabs if its current sources meet your workflow
Streamlabs’ reviewed quick-start confirms source setup and YouTube streaming, but it does not settle whether your installed version offers a comparable multi-file playlist source or how it behaves. Do not infer that the feature is absent from the guide alone. Inspect the current source menu, confirm sequential playback and audio capture, then run a test event before selecting it for unattended playback.
Do not choose on unverified differences
The available documentation does not establish a fair head-to-head result for transitions, reliability advancing between files, audio routing, overlays, recovery after a disconnect, unattended-run behavior, operating-system support, or current app versions. Those details can determine whether a playlist stream succeeds, so verify them in the version and setup you will actually use.

Set up a local-file playlist in XSplit
- Add the playlist source: In XSplit Broadcaster, open Add Source > Scene Widgets > Video Playlist. Add the local video files you want in the sequence and save the playlist. XSplit documents this procedure in Creating a Video Playlist.
- Check media and playback: Confirm the intended file order and continuous-playback behavior in the playlist controls. XSplit’s media-source documentation covers common media sources, including MP4, and exposes playback controls: Image, Video, and Audio Source. Test the actual files rather than assuming every format or transition behaves alike.
- Set up the YouTube live event: In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream and connect XSplit using YouTube’s server URL and stream key, or the software’s YouTube integration if available in your setup. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the planned broadcast. Follow YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Configure output for a stable connection: YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video options, CBR, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Choose resolution and bitrate for your stable upload capacity rather than automatically selecting the maximum. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the applicable output guidance.
- Send a test stream: Start sending from XSplit, wait for the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room, and inspect both picture and sound before starting the live event. YouTube specifically says, “Before clicking Start Streaming, check the preview in the Live Control Room.” Use its live-streaming tips to guide testing and ongoing monitoring.
- Verify the whole sequence: Play representative sections and observe file changes, audio continuity, stream health, and the event page. If you are also making a local recording, confirm that it is being saved. A short opening clip alone will not reveal a later file’s missing audio or an unexpected end-of-playlist behavior.
How to evaluate Streamlabs Desktop for this use
The official Streamlabs quick-start shows how to set up sources and go live on YouTube, but it does not supply a multi-file playlist procedure. Since that guide does not settle playlist equivalence, use this check before building a long stream around Streamlabs:
- Open the source picker in your installed Streamlabs Desktop version and look for a source that accepts multiple local video files or a playlist.
- If you find one, add the intended files and verify ordering, continuous playback, and what happens at the end of a file or the full sequence.
- Check whether file audio is captured as expected and whether any scene or overlay changes interrupt playback.
- Connect to a YouTube test event, inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and observe at least one file transition before going public.
For the YouTube connection and event workflow, use YouTube’s encoder guide and Streamlabs’ quick-start. Exact source labels and behavior can change by installed version.

Rights and YouTube checks
- Stream only video and audio you are authorized to broadcast. Having a file on your computer does not itself establish permission to use it.
- YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance reminds creators to ensure trailer content does not infringe other people’s content. This is a general warning, not a rights determination for a particular file; see Manage live stream settings.
- Check the stream in preview before going live, then monitor audio and video while it runs. A successful connection at the start does not confirm that later playlist items are correct.
Troubleshooting a playlist stream
| Symptom | What to check | Practical fix |
|---|---|---|
| The next file does not play | Whether the playlist includes the next file and whether continuous playback is enabled in the available controls. | Recheck the playlist order and playback controls in XSplit; in Streamlabs, first establish whether the installed source supports sequential multi-file playback. Retest the transition. |
| Video appears but audio is missing or wrong | Whether the current file has an audio track and whether the encoder is capturing the expected file or desktop audio. | Test each representative file and inspect the Live Control Room preview and audio meters before the event. |
| YouTube has no incoming preview | Whether the event is selected, the stream key or integration is correct, and the encoder is sending to YouTube. | Reconnect using the event’s server URL and stream key or the software integration, then wait for the preview and check stream health. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guidance. |
| Playback or stream quality is unstable | Whether output resolution and bitrate exceed stable upload capacity, and whether the chosen encoder settings follow YouTube’s recommendations. | Use YouTube’s settings guidance; choose an output your connection can sustain, and test again. |
| A file or sound changes unexpectedly midstream | Whether the transition was tested, the file itself contains the expected material, and the stream preview matches the intended output. | Run the full sequence with representative motion and audio, observe the change in preview, and correct the playlist or source setup before going public. |
