Fisher confirmed his identity to Lead Stories, and Russell’s representative separately denied that Russell was in the clip.
Who was speaking in the video?
The speaker was Aaron Fisher. Lead Stories reported on June 10, 2025, that Fisher told the outlet he was the man in the clip. The Independent also identified him as Fisher and reported that he was a former Ohio House Democratic Caucus staffer and a partner at Statecraft Media, which produces digital media campaigns for progressive political candidates.

Russell’s representative, Bryna Rifkin, separately told The Independent: “This is indeed NOT Wyatt Russell, and we have been working to try and correct the mis-identification.”
What does the clip show?
The clip circulated during the June 2025 Los Angeles protests. It shows a bearded man wearing a baseball cap and hoodie speaking to uniformed law enforcement. He criticized their role at the protest and urged them to stand with the community, referring to their oath to the Constitution. One widely repeated line described the officers as being on the “wrong side of history.”

How did the misidentification spread?
The Independent reported that The Tennessee Holler first shared the video on X and that other accounts later identified the speaker as Russell. Lead Stories documented an X post dated June 9, 2025, that made that identification; its June 10 fact check reported Fisher’s confirmation. The Independent’s June 10 report also identified Fisher and quoted Russell’s representative’s denial.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, as quoted by The Independent, Fisher said: “I found the mixup to be pretty humorous, and glad it helped to amplify the message.”
Fisher also said: “The deployment of the National Guard against the wishes of our governor is dangerously un-American, and I will continue to peacefully protest in my community.” Those are Fisher’s views, not statements by Russell.
What the reports establish
The identity correction rests on Fisher’s confirmation to Lead Stories and the separate denial from Russell’s representative, also reported by The Independent. The reports do not establish the clip’s full chain of custody, provide original camera files, or describe an independent forensic authentication. They support identifying Fisher as the speaker, but do not establish forensic verification of the video or its editing history.
