Gunther def. John Cena
This was the match WWE framed as Cena’s last. Cena hit an Avalanche Attitude Adjustment and then a second AA, but Gunther re-applied the Sleeper Hold and forced Cena to tap out.
The finish was followed by a farewell moment. The roster surrounded Cena in the ring. Cody Rhodes and CM Punk presented him with their titles as a gesture of respect. Cena then removed his shoes and wristbands and left the ring. WWE’s event recap, titled “John Cena says goodbye in an instant classic against Gunther,” covers this context.
