Styles has since left open the possibility of a one-match comeback, but no return is confirmed. Malakai Black was reported booked for a PROGRESS tour after his WWE release, while Corey Graves has said an appearance in an AAA ring might interest him. Neither man’s comments or booking establish a new long-term destination.
Is AJ Styles returning at the Royal Rumble?
No. The 2026 Royal Rumble took place on January 30, 2026. WWE’s official recap says Gunther defeated Styles in a match where Styles’s career was at stake, and framed the result as ending his career. WWE’s event recap records the completed result.
In a July 2026 interview reported by Fightful, Styles left open the possibility of a future one-match return, saying: “I’m not saying it’s gonna happen. I’m just saying usually it’s granted. Never say never.” That is openness, not an announcement or confirmed booking. Fightful’s report has his comments.
What is Malakai Black doing after WWE?
POST Wrestling reported that Black was released by WWE in April 2026, his 90-day no-compete clause had expired by August, and he was booked for PROGRESS’s September 2026 tour. The report supports a post-WWE independent booking; it does not confirm that he returned to AEW or signed with another promotion. POST Wrestling’s report covers the booking.

Graves has expressed interest in the possibility, but has not confirmed a match. In September 2026 comments to the Mark Hoke Show, as reported by Fightful, he said he had been medically cleared and had returned to the gym, then added: “AAA might be fun for me to step foot into that.” Fightful described him as an announcer on WWE Raw and AAA; that broadcaster role is distinct from a potential in-ring appearance. Fightful’s report includes his comments.
